Heta? But yes, it's funny to see in shows when characters struggle or laugh at other characters for being bad at those crazy runes. I lost the chance to learn it myself, but it really is a crazy language from everything I've seen. Just memorizing thousands of symbols is crazy to me when I can't remember birthdays or Pokemon types.

The fun thing is, kanji get way easier the more you read! Once you really get into light novels or visual novels things start going smooth.

The thing is I hate reading even in my native language, let alone one where I have less literacy than an elementary schooler.
I forgot why I started learning Japanese in the first place but I've invested too much time to quit.

That sounds very tough to improve then... Reading is the quickest & easiest way to build vocabulary which in turn makes every other skill (reading, listening etc) easier, I have no idea how I'd even go about learning a language if I didn't enjoy reading.

I have trouble focusing when reading books or pure VNs. I think I'll just have to compromise and try to play games that have both fun gameplay and VN-style dialogue segments.
