I know that it's not my business, but I would recommend you quit using them ASAP.
Those things will fuck you up.
I used them for around a year when I was younger, and it took me years to get back to feeling normal.

My friend is on Prozac and from my experience he's a lot happier with them but he's still closted-suicidal

 No.109885

>>109883
I was on fluoxetine, olanzapine and alprazolam.
I can tell you that I wasn't happy, in fact that was probably my lowest point because SSRIs don't make you happy they just numb emotions in general, so I didn't feel happy at all, I didn't feel much of anything.
Anyway I know that they do work for some, but when I was in the psych ward it didn't seem to be the majority.
Point is that those pills can't do anything but harm if you don't fix your life.
And the harm they did in my case was extreme, I used to faint all the time and had this mental fog like you wouldn't believe. It took me 3 years to get back to where I was before taking them.
Psychiatrists and psychologists can go to hell, been visiting both for over 10 years at that point and nothing good came out of it, only after I stopped visiting them and actually started doing things on my on, only then have things gotten better.

Anyway, individual mileage may vary, but I just needed to get this off my chest.

Is there anything I can do to help him get happier? He's always been sort of moody and cynical, a lot of people who surround him online are the same too.

>a lot of people who surround him online are the same too.
Tell him to go make new friends who aren't cynical or spend less time with them, you're the sum of who you're surrounded by or however the saying goes.

 No.109890

>>109887
I would probably just recommend hanging out with him, take him somewhere if possible.
I don't really know him so it's hard to give good advice.
At the end of the day it's his fight, and he has to find his way out of it, the best you can do for him is probably just support him.
If possible try to get him interested in some hobbies, preferably something physical like hiking or something, though anything is better than nothing.

Also don't listen to >>109889 you can't tell him how he should live his life. Doing that will only push him away.

 No.109893

>>109889
I don't know, his interests are in a space adjacent to a really negative one, so he regularly meets a lot of these people
>>109890
He recently hiked a year ago. He travels to a lot of countries, Greece, Czechia, and a bunch more, but he's just declining in mental health. He also has a cat and is really interested in Math.
I can't get him to stop being interested in his main hobby since he is sort of a public figure in it. I always try to console him but he has never really elaborated, I respect that virtue a lot of him. It's been years since we've been friends and he loves when people take an interest in his ideas over his works from what I know.
He's just always been so cynical and so quick to lose interest/trust that something will work out.

I can relate to this, or rather I could when I was younger. It's not a side effect that's particularly easy to bring up to doctors.
PLEASE do not listen to people on the internet telling you to stop the medication that might be keeping you alive. It's unfortunately common on imageboards for people to go on rants labeling psychology or anti-depressants as some evil conspiracy, but they save lives (like mine).

>people to go on rants labeling psychology or anti-depressants as some evil conspiracy
Anon, all I did was talk about my actual experience.
That is: The pills didn't do kuso and only made me feel worse, same with psychologists and psychiatrists.
I did say that people do have varying experiences with both.
And I'm going to repeat myself but the pills won't help you treat the actual problem, and from my experience neither will psychologists.

Agree with this anon, I really don't like that field but >>109969 is definitely right in what he is saying
Even if I dislike it I would recommend most people follow the latters advice but if unless it's extreme never go to a psychiatrist since they could potentially ruin your life

Both are true, imo most of the hate comes from them being (maliciously or not) being overprescribed. That said most people don't have depression due to a concrete hormone problem, it's usually due to other factors (environment, diet, habits, etc.).

Overuse of the nutbladder can contribute to mental health issues.
