i dont really like seeing over the top anime girl reactions to realistic things like trading stocks/crypto, it creates a sort of cognitive dissonence for me
It also reminds me how terrible the world is right now which reduces the anime escapism effect

Yeah, 2D is where I go to escape from real life so I'm not a huge fan of modern world pop culture stuff. Girls becoming streamers or characters browsing youtube/twitter just feels weird.
It's what a young audience relates to since the world is ever changing, though, so it makes sense. If Steins;gate came out these days the plot would involve social mediia instead of an anonymous imageboard and it wouldn't be wrong for it.

That's actually something I have been thinking about relating to the "thematic sequel" they are making. The original Steins;Gate has such a big focus on otaku culture with its setting and characters and everything, so assuming the new one will be set in modern day Akihabara, how are they going to retain that same feel as the OG when Akiba is no longer the otaku mecca it used to be? Will it be set in an alternate timeline (heh) Akihabara, or will they move the story to Nakano Broadway or Denden Town in Osaka or something?
