only thing that comes to mind is when the design for space station solar panels that start packed into this folded configuration discovered by this japanese mathematician who was inspired by origami. you need to pull on it from just two ends and the creases would constrain the structure and transmit the force everywhere it needed to go to unpack the entire rectangular panel which was much bigger than the cubey thing it started as
