Hey pissu, check your lawn. It's getting time to start taking part in the most meaningless of rituals once again!

 No.2221

You mean mowing the lawn? I like mowing the lawn. It's relaxing. I love the hum of the lawn mower, and I love how it smells after.

I'd like it more if I could listen to music while doing it and not blow out my eardrums. Wonder if there's nice ANC bluetooth headphones I can get specifically for lawn-moving...

I pay €400 a month to not have to do that.

Lawn? What lawn?

 No.2229

You could save 4800 a year if you spent an hour a week doing it yourself....

 No.2230

There are bluetooth speakers for when you're doing yardwork. You might not be able to play your embarrassing 2hu music if the neighbors are around, though.

 No.2231

i have never had a lawn
used to mow for a golf course though and after a while you sort of get into a zen like contemplative trance

HoA fees. Trash, debt, repairs, and insurance included.

 No.2242

>>2241
so there are actually benefits to those?

 No.2243

>>2242
Of course they're not all bad. It's a bit more expensive than I'd like, but at least if the house needs painting again I won't need to lift a finger either. I think around 1/4th of the cost is property taxes being paid for me too.
I would never pick a place with higher fees than this though, probably wouldn't be that much cheaper if I did it all myself.

Last time I lived somewhere with an HOA they were constantly nagging about needing to cut the grass and trim trees and bushes... Bunch of thieves.

 No.2246

i live in a strata and its basically like the american hoa thing. i own the interior of a unit, they own the exteriors of them. i pay strata fees but they have a guy to put the bins on the street, they kill pigeons, they replace broken bits of stairways and so on
so once i put up a clothesline because i couldn't be bothered walking down to it all the time. just the line tied on one side to a drainage pipe and on the other side secured to a pole. and some old biddy knocked on my door and said i couldnt attach anything of my own to the exterior its against the rules
i said i'd take it down, i didn't, and i thought that was the end of it. but then a couple of months later the line was suddenly missing
i hope it was as much of a pain in the ass to tear down as it was to put up

See, that's at least an acceptable expense. In the US, HOAs pretty much do nothing and instead force you to abide by their rules at risk of potential eviction (at the very most extreme end). Mostly they just nag minor violations and collect fees. So basically they complain that you need to trim bushes and trees, collect their fees, and then you still have to pay to get that done yourself.

I've tried them before but uh even near the highest levels I was barely able to hear my speakers over the lawnmower and that's probably not good for my ears...

https://www.amazon.com/3M-WorkTunes-Protector-Bluetooth-Technology/dp/B0723CYHPZ

Decided to get these instead after seeing all the reviews suggesting them, and the noise suppression seemed to work really well at making the lawnmower's sound quite soft. Although I'm tard and forgot to charge them so I dunno the music quality yet...

 No.2251

>>2250
You could also try those headphones that attach in front of your ears and vibrate your bones. I've heard people use them in factory settings where it's too loud to use regular headphones.

 No.2253

i use my etymotics iems when traveling on plane and they do a fantastic job at noise isolation
its rated at 40db noise reduction which is much better than the 24db you linked

Actually bought a new mower this year after like 15 years with the old one. Man, what a piece of crap that was at the end. The wheels were uneven, the bag couldn't attach, and grass got clogged under if if it was even a little wet (which it almost always was due to humidity) and it'd overheat every 10 minutes.
The new one is pretty nice, it's even self-propelled! It's hard to get used to, but it's a lot easier now and I feel like I could mow five lawns and expend the same emergy as it used to take me to mow one.

 No.2270

>>2254
Similar stuff was happening to my mower when I got a new one. The piece that attached the throttle line to the pull bar fell off, the metal wire was fraying, it refused to start a lot of the time, the motor assist was broken, and would spit out a lot of smoke. Nicest thing about the new one was how much lighter and easier to push it. The old one really sucked because my backyard was really, really hilly so pushing a ~35 lbs mower uphill really sucked.

 No.2284

I use a reel mower.

 No.2290

Finally got around to mowing my lawn yesterday. It had got pretty high and was a pain to mow but at least I was able to get a new blade on it which helped. The other one had been on there for the last five years.

>>2254
I haven't seen a lawnmower with a bag in well over 20 years. Family had one back when I was a kid and I still remember seeing plenty of people aorund my town using them then all of a sudden I never seen anyone ever using them again. A lot of people here even with tiny yards use riding lawnmowers because they're fat and lazy to move. Then I have a pretty decent sized yard out there push mowing for a couple of hours. I guess at least I'm getting some exercise compared to them.

Mowed the lawn today.

My neighbors probably hate me because I don't herbicide and it's full of wildflowers in the spring.

Also I've got a few wood sorrel colonies growing on the east facing side and I'm letting them be because they look cool.

What the fuck is herbicide? I've never heard of this term.

Chemicals that kill plants. It's basically liquid poison and unsurprisingly it causes cancer, birth defects and other problems in non-plant organisms like humans. Anyone under 60 or so seems to be aware that there's no such thing as a safe way to spray death around your lawn. But, lazy people still choose to coat their living environment with it.
It's something that never made sense to me when I was a kid and my mom would spray it around outside the house and I'd watch everything die and it would smell atrocious. I don't know how people thought it was safe

 No.2312

>>2311
You're supposed to spray small amounts on very specific areas like in between concrete slabs to kill just the weeds that try to tear stuff up there. It's not for killing the whole lawn.

 No.2314

File:[ASW] Mairimashita! Iruma-….png (1.42 MB,1920x1080)

>>2312
Depends on the type of herbicide. Broad-sprectrum herbicides like glyphosate (roundup) is for things like spraying between concrete to kill everything. There's other more limited herbicides that kill certain types of plants, usually certain types of weeds, without killing the grass. They're often included with fertilizer, marketed as "weed & feed". People will cover their entire yard in these. Usually when you see a spring lawn that's only grass it's because they dumped a bunch of herbicides on it. As it progresses to summer the grasses will start to take over naturally because they tolerate heat and drought better than weeds.

 No.2326

I wish I could permanently kill the grass and weeds in my yard and just have fake grass instead. Mowing grass is so fucking pointless. I don't even have a fucking weedeater and my landlord is getting pissed at how high the grass is getting along my fence.

 No.2336

that's terrible for the environment...

I sure hope you tip your landlord well for putting up with your antics.

I guess using a lawnmower is super great for it then. I love spilling oil and gas everywhere too! Getting sunburnt is glorious for my skin once a week as well.

My brother wanted to get goats and just have them eat the grass. He was a really smart guy so I think it's probably a legitimate thing, but I'm sure if goats provide any other benefit

My uncle does that but he butchers and eats them. He tried getting sheep to raise them for wool but I think shearing was too much for him so he ate them as well.

If I get enough land I'll probably buy Shetland ponies or something like that. That way I can probably breed and sell them for a reasonable amount and not have to eat them or sell them for meat.
