 No.3524[Reply]

For the past several years I have had a very poor view of myself.

One semester into university the COVID pandemic struck. Through years of isolation, physical separation from family, and poor guidance I found my grades had fallen to such a degree that I lost the scholarship I relied on for a significant portion of my tuition expenses. Gradually, I withdrew myself into only going outside for necessities like food and laundry. And my grades slipped further. I was put onto academic probation and when my grades had still not recovered I was expelled and given terms for reinstatement.

I felt hopeless, and guideless. At the core of things, I recognized my behavior was my own fault, but... it also stemmed from genuine, untreated mental illness. From a young age I had always been anxious, but that unease faded as I had friends and others to rely on. In a new place, all by myself, I didn't have that. When COVID struck and I began to withdraw, I fell into a spiraling depressive state and an uncaring bureaucracy was content to let me crash into the rocks.

For a semester I was in denial. I was allowed to remain on campus. The following semester I recognized the peril I was in. I applied to a community college to take the courses I was required to in order to be reinstated, but my funds ran dry and I could no longer afford transportation...

Eventually I returned home to live with family and when questioned with where I would be attending the following Fall, I chose a local community college. I felt like a failure and regularly thought about killing myself, but I persisted. Through a legal quirk I had to skip a semester and almost fell back into an unrecoverable despair. The university I had attended previously refused to issue my transcript and the community college I was attending would not allow me to register for classes until I had submitted it. Through an act that seemed of divine intervention I learned there was regulation that would go into effect starting just before the next semester began that would prevent universities from doing exactly this.

And so I was able to continue taking classes. I tried applying to some local universities, but they all rejected me. I thought very hard about killing myself at that point. If it was a matter of combined GPA, I would never recover. The amount of time it would take to reach the requirements for guaranteed admission would be enough time to earn an associate's degree. Congrats! I don't really have much else to say, but that's good to hear.

>There is a lot of "therapy speak" and faux posturing about its importance, but it truly is important. A lot of people online like to post scary stories and dissuade others from taking medication, and I was one of those people who was fearful. I would genuinely encourage others to talk earnestly with your doctor about your concerns and whether medication might help

Yeah, people like to listen to random internet people instead of experts. People won't trust the internet if they had car problems, they'd see a mechanic for that, but they trust them for their one and only body. Never made sense to me.

The guy bears his soul and offers some advice to others that might have struggles in their life, to offer them a bit of hope, and you can only reply with extreme rudeness. There's really no need to purposely make the world an uglier place with such a terrible attitude. The end result of posting like yours is to foster an environment where everyone is afraid to show any emotion and instead hides it behind 50 layers of protection out of fear of showing any humanity.
He's right in that you really shouldn't share such animosity.

It's been raining.
Occassionally thundering.

Heard a honk and then a loud crash.
Then silence. And more honks.

Then police sirens.
The firetruck and ambulance sirens.

I went outside to look what happened.
A big stupid SUV crossed into on-coming traffic and hit a sub compact head-on that was sitting in a protected turn lane.
They hit a lamppost too.

I have this compulsive need to look at the front pages social media websites while logged out so I can seek out videos with high viewcounts and accounts with high subscriber counts. The goal is to figure out what popular opinion is, because I feel completely and utterly out of touch otherwise.

I understand that this behavior is supposedly bad, and I definitely feel miserable doing it, but it just feels so instinctively wrong not to do it, like I'm ignoring a problem that needs to be solved.

How do I stop being like this?

I don't watch anything with a clickbaity thumbnail and title on principle, but I occasionally check youtube front page for what the norms are on about that day, it's like bird watching. Like "oh that new ass creed game and ubisoft is having a bad time, or there's some sort of baldur's gate and hasbro drama, and would you look at that people are still making several hour long skyrim analysis videos".
If it's actually important then I'll look into it and if you guy's are talking about it I'll throw in my 2 cents, but otherwise it's the same type of drama as last year and the year before that. You aren't missing much.

I at the very least know what Cocomelon's deal is, since people who aren't me are aware of its popularity and thus talk about it. What gets me is when I see these videos/accounts with insane view/sub counts that I don't see anyone talking about, and if I do, it's in a dumb internet capacity that doesn't actually tell me anything.

>it just feels so instinctively wrong not to do it, like I'm ignoring a problem that needs to be solved.
Because it is our instincts. We are evolved to live in a tribe of few hundreds people max. In such an environment it is important to care what's going on since it might actually be a problem that needs to be solved. Such instincts are maladaptive for the modern world. When we follow internet drama and news we are no longer caring about our tribe or things that affect us. We are expending emotional energy on pointless things, grow out of touch with our immediate surroundings and it also changes our personalities to be more emotionally reactive and attention seeking. Just not good for mental wellness. It also doesn't help that almost everybody in popular online content are dumb as rocks and immature. Voicing out a sensible opinion there will only gets you attacked or ignored.

If birds are not real, then what other force could possibly stop witches from achieving total aerial superiority?

Being able to walk the streets without having to dodge any malevolent magics flung at you from high above, or suffer the smug insults of airborne airheads, is the best proof that birds are out there and looking out for you that you could ask for.

 No.3474

>>3324
It's the insects. Insects were locked in a struggle with witches for centuries, being able to choke with sheer numbers any spellcasting hag that dared to lower her altitude too much. Not to mention what terrible fate befell a witch flying in full speed that acciddentaly ate a bee or hornet.
In order to combat insects, witches created a new form of shapeshifting, focused on airborne agility and insect-eating. This form came to be known as bats. They are nocturnal, because witches could only do their magic at night, as the common knowledge teaches us. Some witches were turning themselves into bats, others found some poor guys that were way too attracted to pointy hats for their own good.
At first the changes were more or less controlled (if not always voluntary) and people were human for most of the time and bat for the rest. As those changes were based on black magic, they required blood in order to function. This gave the basis for vampire myths, by the way. But after some time not all transformations were successful. If someone tried to turn into bat and they stayed human, they could try again later, but if they couldn't revert from bat to human... Well, their fate was to become a new animal species. Artificial and based from human genome, which explains how bats can fly and still be mammals, by the way.
Surviving witches, when they noticed that their colleagues turned into much simpler and nonmagical animals, went into panic mode. Most of them accepted supremacy of insects and flew only on maximal altitude, far away from the menace, but this proved fatal due to low temperatures (freezing to death mid-flight) and low oxygen (losing consciousness and falling to death). Over few generations, the art of flying became completely lost. Yearning for speed and wind in their hair once again, remaining witches were responsible for development of bicycles and motorbikes. The modern bikers and cyclists are all part of secret, occult cabal, still targeted by flying insects from time to time.
Anyway, this is all tangential, because birds do exist and they are cute. I wish that my children would come out of eggs, really. Now excuse me, I need to do my daily ride over the local leylines.
