This is a thread on /qa/ to help facilitate discussion among wandering nen friends that have recently lost their home board. There is already a thread on /jp/ here: >>>/jp/36668
but due to /jp/'s nature as a board for general nonsense it could quickly be displaced onto page 3, so this thread will also exist on /qa/.
You're certainly not constrained to this thread, but if you want a primary thread to make future plans among yourselves then I figure /qa/ might be a better place. We'll see which thread picks up more steam, but I think I'll link this one to a blotter which I'll update after this thread is made.
To kissu friends: Answer their questions and help if them adjust if they choose to stay here. Respect any decision they choose, however! Welcome to Kissu, temporarily or permanently!
Yeah, me too. Nothing will be the same as nen. I'll be over on 2kind.moe. Thanks for everything, I'm glad I could share nen with you all.
Do you mean to leave imageboards altogether?
Would anything convince you otherwise? I understand it happens to a lot of people, but it seems so sad to just leave completely like that.
I know it's sad, but there's nothing to be done now. Let's look back on kakashi nenpo with a smile.
Who knows, maybe you'll post with us again unknowingly on some other site.
See you around, friend.
Could have been a thing where the hosting provider was mandating updating the version of PHP for security reasons. Normally, you're right and it would be possible to just stay on the same version of PHP.
It's not really a big deal. Just PHP won't hold responsibility to address any bug reports after November
could be that. I think a lot of jp chans are on shared hosting
I can't blame nenmin for wanting to step down. Moderating an imageboard sucks ass. I'd just look at the PHP update as the straw that broke the camel's back.
It's not hard or anything, but you don't really get a break. It's hard to keep things clean of botspam for your posters.
could put the files he placed on his homepage onto nen.kissu.moe for archive sake. No database so I can't take it over like 4taba... not that I really want to do something like that anymore, partly because I don't want PHP running on any of my servers either...>>91409>updated
it's a total pain, I gave up trying to do it because there were too many errors. I want to get rid of the vichan engine here eventually.
Sorry, I see how that could be misunderstood. I meant I'm not going to try and recreate /nen/ culture somewhere else. I'd had some concerns from the tone of nenmin's posts about spammers and started posting on kissu's /jp/ some time ago, and will probably continue for the forseeable future. Thinking about giving sushigirl a try as well; hate to be on just 1 imageboard because they can fold easily.
I'll never forget the time I got to spend with my /nen/frens!
I hope all of you will be able to take it easy, no matter where life may take you!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szLVHLWjgpw
do any cute nenpo refugees want to be my birlfriend?
How are they settled, are you giving up on imagebords too. I only posted on nen after all of these years.
I don't think it's settled either...
I'm settling down right here in this thread!
I don't think it's possible for a place as nice and welcoming as nen to exist on the internet anymore. The other poster that called it an island was right, we really had something unique. Thank you for all of these happy memories nenmin and all of my friends from nen. I'll hang out in this thread for awhile longer but I think this is it for me and imageboards now.
No, I can't give up on imageboards. I have my own to take care of, after all. I don't like other formats either. I just don't see anything developing from this situation, so I'm moving on from nen.
Where are you going?
Well, I like Tohno. It's a little more serious and negative, so it's no replacement. I'll always be around /kind/ so long as it exists. It's also no replacement, but I think it's nice enough.
I can't speak for you, but on those sites I feel some sense of belonging.
>>91444>I don't think it's possible for a place as nice and welcoming as nen to exist on the internet anymore
I don't think that's true. It will never be identical, but there are surely places similar enough to satisfy your desire. You need to give them a chance, just as you gave nen a chance. It's always a rough process to adjust to a new community, but the places I've seen mentioned here (and kissu) all seem very welcoming to new people.
Fans of Mewkledreamy are forbidden from leaving!
I'm glad you made it mewkle friends, I'll give it my best shot. I think /kind/ seems nice.
We must usher in the new age! The Mewkle age! Fate has delivered us to this point for a reason! We need 50 Mewkledreamy threads every day! Maira fashion! Kotoko technology! Tokiwa sports! Yume... I like Yume!
It's our time! By posting a Yume image (very cute by the way) you shown an instinctual understanding for what must be done. We will have Mewkledreamy in all threads at all times!
Seriously, though, I remember Mewkle being talked about a little bit on nen and there was an art book mentioned around Christmas time a couple years back that I remember. Mewkle fanatics are spread out really thin, so I shouldn't let anyone escape!
nothing will ever be nen again, but it doesn't have to mean nothing will ever be nenly again!
nenliness is in your heart, and it's up to you to bring the spirit of nen with you wherever you go!
...is what i want to say but truthfully nen was really special it hurts knowing it's gone.
Nenmin hoped we could stay together, but it's difficult to remain nenly without imposing on another board's identity.
I feel like giving up on imageboards entirely now that nen is gone. It was the last place I felt a sense of belonging.
The fragmenting of nenposters across the /qa/ and the /jp/ threads here already began. May happy nenmories always be in your hearts as we are separated cast to the wind to plant seeds of niceness in new communities>>91375
I'll miss you friend... guess we won't get to watch the end of healer girl together...>>91428
Nen was really special and cozy I'll miss posting and seeing cutes and nennly posts
Ah this reminds me of the time when the first iteration of /ota/ went down after just a couple months. I still remember manually backing up threads and reposting them whenever someone would spam several pages off the board, those were the days... We got our very own refugee board on Tohno while everyone was trying to figure out what to do from there until eventually someone stepped up and decided to host /ota/2.0. Now my memory is pretty hazy and I don't really have a clue what version of /ota/ we're on at this point but it's pretty clear that with multiple admin changes, whatever became of that website over the years bears little resemblance to the original iteration.
I was pretty sad about what /ota/ had turned into so I gladly took the opportunity to move somewhere else once /nen/ rolled around. Starting fresh on a new spin-off felt exciting and it became clear pretty soon that /nen/min was more capable than /ota/min, oatman or any other admin that came before him. He ran the site by himself for several years, taking care of spam, providing fun features and designing everything from the ground up. The cuteposters of the /jp/sphere finally had a place to call home! It took several spam incidents at odd hours before /nen/min finally decided to hire some meidos and that along with some IP blacklists finally seemed to take care of that but apparently it wasn't enough. It's strange that someone who appeared so enthusiastic about their imageboard would decide to up and leave out of the blue but hey, if I knew how to run a spin-off I would've done so years ago. As things stand I haven't the slightest clue what a PHP update is and I have no intention of finding out.
Now I think the moral of the story here is that while the users of an imageboard are the most important ingredient to success, it's the admin who ultimately holds everything together. If they don't draw a clear line about what kind of content they allow on their site, take care of spam and keep everything running smoothly the userbase will dwindle over time and be replaced by spambots and even lower forms of life. /nen/min did all that and went above and beyond to provide the /nen/frens with a fun experience and welcoming atmosphere. A /nen/2.0 couldn't hope to replicate what /nen/min had achieved on his website and although I'd gladly be proven wrong on this I think we should learn from the mistakes of /ota/ lest we repeat them.
I for one will wait a couple weeks to see if /nen/min changes his mind. I'm busy with IRL stuff right now either way so I'm in no rush to move somewhere else at this point. In the most likely case that /nen/min already made up his mind I think 2kind.moe is our best bet at a new home. It seems like a place where /nen/frens would fit right in and it seems to be struggling with a dwindling userbase. If the death of /nen/ could mean the revitalization of /kind/ at least something good will have come out of this. From the looks of it /kind/ has had its own share of admin changes over the years but hey, I'm sure this time they'll stick around.
Thanks for reading this rambling train of thought, I don't know about everyone else but I'm not going to abandon the /jp/sphere until either I or the spirit of /jp/ creativity dies. I'll stick around, no matter what the future may hold and I hope you'll do the same.
>>91505>guess we won't get to watch the end of healer girl together...
Sorry to but in, but you can do it here if you want to. I can't imagine anyone here objecting to another anime thread or whatever it is you have planned. You could also make it somewhere else and link it here.
It doesn't need to be the end.>>91510
Go away Ackey!
I don't have anywhere to go on the internet anymore either, I'm going to watch our nen refugee threads for a few weeks and see if anything changes plus also posting on /kind/ because that site seems nenly.>>91509
I feel the same way, thank you for writing all of this up.>>91502
It was also the last place I felt a sense of belonging.
I don't know what to do anymore without my nenly nens.
I said this in the /jp/ thread, but I think isolation is what hits a lot of admins. It's best not to go through "what if" scenarios, but I think every imageboard should have a team and not one person because isolation really eats away at your psyche. I remember nenmin asking for some help a few months ago (or it feels like a few months ago) but I'm not sure if that lead to anything behind the scenes. It doesn't sound like nen had any sort of mod chat. Stuff like that can really help, not just for second opinions but to have someone in your same position that you can talk to about site management.>>91534>The better tengu imageboard
Now that you mention it, this means bun outlived another board, huh.
/nen/ was a place of few words
"watching anime with /nen/" was posting an occasional screenshot or clip in the anime thread, maybe >>ing someone else's post as a show of camaraderie
The isolation sucks, to be sure. It's just hard to trust other people with the community you're the head of. I wouldn't really sleep any easier with assistance with moderation.>>91538
I think that's what I liked most about nen. I liked that I didn't have to worry about making the board worse. I mostly just posted what I wanted, and what I wanted fit with the board. It's hard to take it easy like I could with nen.
I can't take it easy like this, I don't know what to do.
I can't tell you what to do. What I can tell you is nen was unique as far as I'm aware.
Unfortunately, you'll have to look for the next best thing for you or just move on entirely. You could go with kissu or any other suggested sites if you choose to do so, or you can look elsewhere and find your own place.
As much as it sucks that we can't post on nen anymore, it's gone.
Why don't you watch something or read a VN in the meantime? Find something that can keep you occupied for a while if you can. Maybe we'll figure something out.
Thank you I'll take a break from refreshing these threads.
If I ever make a /jp/ spinoff it'll be themed after my waifu.
We'll have to save that character for the inevitable demise of /awoo/.
Feeling scared and alone missing all my nenposters frens
when 4/qa/ froze and died we still knew one another because of our few cultural artifacts.
but /qa/ was very cunning, meticulous and forward. A board disappears so IRC gets made, IRC not good enough the push your culture somewhere else, posting gets difficult and a new imageboard is made.
>>91653>when 4/qa/ froze and died we still knew one another because of our few cultural artifacts.
Back then desumin was also nice enough to make /meta/.
yea that was an important part of it
Where's the blotter?
it can be on /all/ but it isn't linked to the other blotters
Fixed. Now shows up on /all/
I'm doing okay it's still hurts to lose nen
It seems we've mostly moved to over to kind.
I liked when things were nenly.
Yeah, but that was nen and this is now
feeling awful since I know it was my fault for forgetting to ribbit ribbit
we tried to tell you.
I'm leaving imageboards after all nenfrens, kind wasn't as kind as nen in the end and I won't be posting there again. Good bye, we had some nenly times together.
Okay, now that >>91825
left, we can finally talk shit behind his back.
never learned about the woof woof dinosaurs
I tried /kind/, but it's just not for me either. Sorry, /kind/min. I think I will just stay here. Maybe I will visit /koko/ and /ota/ occasionally as well.
I'm scared of bad people like the unkind people.
By bad people I mean the racists on that board.
Ah well. It was worth a try.
Adapting to new environment and to let go of the past definitely takes time and effort to try, but oh well nothing could stop you
Those posters only appeared after sharing the site here, if you must know.
good, I hope they destroy any site that gets pushed here.
They don't call me 'vermin the tyrant' for nothing(yametekudastop)
I kind of hope the /nen/frens can find a website that everyone would feel comfortable with moving to but nobody can force you to move somewhere where you don't like it! Maybe someone will make a backup but I don't think it would be the same without /nen/min...
A lot of people probably don't remember but /nen/ had some growing pains at the beginning as well, with rudeposters from /ota/ spamming gore/porn or making awful threads while the cuteposters were scared and just trying to take it easy! Eventually /nen/min stepped in and banished all the rudeposters to /gen/ and the frenly /nen/frens could finally live in peace! Until now ;_;
Considering that a lot of /nen/frens have announced they'd give /kind/ a try it's not surprising that some people would move there as well just to stir up trouble, similarly to how /nen/ was first advertised on /ota/. Things are probably going to be a bit turbulent over the next couple of days but hopefully /kind/min will be able to deal with the trolling. I'll just wait and see how everything turns out but I'm still confident that /kind/ is probably our best alternative. /kissu/ seems to lean more towards the funposting side of /jp/ that /ota/ represents while /kind/ seems to be more cuteposting oriented like /nen/ used to be.
Either way, things are still developing so I think it's too early to give up on imageboards entirely at this point!
what the heck....
verm is literally lawful evil......
I have no intentions of replacing nen. Ideally someone starts a fresh site so there are no concerns about the sites' cultures. I just wanted to give an alternative to kissu for those nenfriends that are reluctant to post here.
For me it's less about replacing the site itself and more about keeping the community together rather than have everyone scatter to the winds.
It would be nice to know that I'm posting on the same site as my former /nen/frens even if it's somewhere else.
/kind/ seems to be fine so far. There's no sign of trolls or rude threads/people even in the catalog unless I missed it.
New-board trolls could be something that it has already passed in the past and of course they wouldn't bother anymore as long the board owner doesn't engage in webring clown politics.
Yeah, it's not as though we're that new anyway. I don't have any interest in the webring, which is why /kind/ hasn't and won't be rejoining so long as I'm the owner. Most of our friends are a hold over from former BOs, some going back to the days of being a board on 8ch. It feels wrong to not acknowledge that, even if it's mostly meaningless these days.
I miss the Nitori pictures.
Other than the racists in the vent thread you mean, which could never be considered kind in any way as that is one of the least kind things imaginable.
I don't want to give my nenfrens up, I'm sticking around for awhile longer.
Looks like a troll who just found out about nen moving and paid a little visit
He'll be gone in one way or another
Thank you kissu for hosting us and being nice, everyone has been very nenly here.
I'm a racist and I'm kind.
You aren't kind, those are mutually exclusive.
It's a terrible thing that happened to you guys, so it's really important that it can try and mitigate the damage and help the nen people.
And of course, Nenmin had faith in us so we need to live up to it!
Still feel lost and alone without my nenly nens.
I don't think that's quite right. Sachiko was telling you that it's going to be okay and to do your best!
She's very ambiguous, huh?
Haven't bothered leaving the nen refugee threads yet. I feel safe here with my friends
you should all visit sushigirl at some point! it's not really a jp place but it's jp adjacent!! they are friendly there but just in a different way.
So where did nenfriends end up going?
It would be nice if nen could live on as a whole somehow, maybe someone could make a new nen...
>>92252>maybe someone could make a new nen...
Yeah... maybe somebody as nenly as you...
I don't know programming and all that stuff!
Who are you quoting?
comuntities are all like "we don't need a stable admin. It's the regular nature of imageboards to come and go." Until their favorite image-board shuts down and all of a sudden they realize that everything was held together by the admin and the former users just go to different imageboards with nothing new being created, just the former established sites..
I'm still here and at 2kind.
It seems were all too technologically illiterate... Sigh.
No one ever said that about nen, nenmin was loved and continues to be based on everyone wishing nenmin the best.
I'm sticking on kissu, I would be open to a new board too but this place is nice (there's some gross posts but I can ignore those).
we try to make it so that things that are less nice go onto /jp/ while the more acceptable content goes on /qa/. Then things like /sum/ or /ec/ are not strictly quality controlled and are held to the rules of /all/. It's not particularly important but that's how we manage the site's content and attempt to encourage others to see the site.
Thanks for the explanation, I find the /jp/ /qa/ split a little confusing. I had already left 4chan before /qa/ turned into a /jp/ spinoff, I think that's what happened at least.
>>92269> /jp/ /qa/ split
indeed, no one wanted the board but I made it anyways
I'm still on /kind/ and this thread. Maybe I'll give kissu an actual try though. Maybe it's not as bad as it seems.>>92254
I don't think it's as hard as it seems to get started, and I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to lend a hand with everything else if you ask.
maybe that's a thing that needs to be emphasized more in the future:
the /qa/ /jp/ split is not a content split but instead a cultural one which divides between older sophisticated type of posting and a more free form type of posting...
I've been hosting /kind/ since their old site went down, I can do the same for you guys too (>>91836
) but somebody will need to moderate.
I'll give it an honest try.
does the old UI still have the nen theme or did I remove that...
kissuing all the nenfriends >///<
It's time to move on from /jp/...
I have been monitoring the nenfugee threads and occasionally tohno, but none of the alternatives seemed that appealing so I've mostly taken a break from the internet. I agree it would be nice if nen could live on and would like to help my nenfrens find a new home, but I know nothing about webdev and internet security scares me. Working alone it would probably turn into another super secret project
how have I not seen this before? hah
Internet breaks are good to have now and then. My only worry with them, personally, is that the longer I go without talking to people the harder it is to re-establish it, even anonymously. So I try to just post rarely instead of completely dropping it, although if I get addicted to a VN or something I forget to do it.
The /nen/liness on /kind/ has been increasing so I think I'll move there!
>>92252>So where did nenfriends end up going?
I've been lurking here and like it quite a bit, I didn't really like /kind/ unfortunately. I'm actually a little curious as to how much of /nen/ ended up on /kind/ as opposed to here.>maybe someone could make a new nen...
I don't mind helping someone set it up and give them the tech support. Vichan still works but I won't touch the code unless you pay me to do a task. My gmail is in the footer.
Did the admin delete the racists or is it nenly only for some people (not nenly).
I guess I'd also add that the Kissu staff would probably provide support with how to do things and we'd create a small IRC(steam group or whatever) to help.
Basically I'm saying that we'd be willing to do a bit of the lifting. Since I have the archive that Nenmin gave out I'd probably be able to rebuild the database and posts.
I just don't know...
Kissu is my home now, axtually bad people haven't posted once since we came here and that's enough for me.
If PHP were made in the current year it would be forgotten in a month
It's actually amazing how bad PHP is. I have no doubt in my mind that it's cost millions of dollars in development costs.
I guess but I only know PHP and Java. The main issue is how much of this software uses bad phpisms, and for lainchan specifically theres random junk in source control. I also know nothing about webserver management so it will probably take a while before I feel comfortable making it public.
My caches are all expired so if anyone has any assets like the banners or remembers some of the custom features that would help. I remember a few like the shobon/hidamari tags, filters like cuties/cool/nice, but anything help lots!
I think I can get the names list from the archive at least...
just put the site behind CloudFlare and forget about it
I found 30 of the 34 nen banners on wayback machine. The site claims to have 31 unique ones archived, but I can't seem to find the last one.
They have a number of other assets there from things like the halloween event as well. >>92308
There is a fully working /gen/ backup on wayback machine, including the .js and .gif files for the flying NEET.
I teared up after seeing some of those old posts for the first time in years and getting taken back to the early days of nen.
It's strange how unexpected things become such precious memories...
wordfilters I remember:
"tfw" --> "I am unable to form a sentence without memes"
"n*rmies" --> "Just a sec, gotta empty my pee bottle"
"b*tch" --> c u t i e
"f*gs" --> "friends"
"p*nis" --> "OCHINCHIN"
"v*gina" --> "OMANKO"
Ah I hadn't thought to use archives or wayback>>92422
>>92422>"n*rmies" --> "Just a sec, gotta empty my pee bottle"
If you said "n*rmalfags", would that have made it through or would it have become "n*rmalfriends"?
No one would have said that disgusting word on nen.
Yeah, we take it easy on nen. People that don't belong would leave soon enough.
Sigh nen was such a lovely place.
I really wish things could go back to how they were. kissu is completely different. /kind/ has always sucked.
Nen was home. A place where I could be comfortable.
As much as it hurts I'm still happy for nenmin moving on.
Yeah, I'm glad too. I could only imagine how it is to take care of a decent board.
It's hard to put it into words. It's a delicate board and I think people put too much emphasis on kindness, if that makes any sense. It's important, but I don't think everything has to fit the most strict definition of kindness to a tee. There's always been people getting upset when someone talks about something wrong they've done, trollpost or not. People make mistakes and have stupid ideas. I don't think they should be condemned for it, especially on an anonymous imageboard. Makes it hard to keep people around on both sides of those pointless arguments.
Hopefully this won't be misconstrued due to my poor explanation.
There are too many waifuists there.
Nonsense, no such thing.
That's not the part that I was calling nonsense.
A person with a degree in waifulogy.
Emphasis on kindness while not being kind, no thank you.
I'm just lurking there for now but I haven't really noticed anything wrong with it, to be honest.
Someone posted a reddit copypasta a week ago and people argued over it but I didn't pay any attention to that. Maybe /kind/min should add a hide thread function or just move stuff like that to /gen/!
I can't believe it
