I've noticed that on smaller imageboards there always happens to be a time in which there's very little activity. It's made me consider whether these are the one thing preventing alternative imageboards from really taking off since the one thing 4chan's got for the mainstream audiences is guaranteed activity. How does /qa/ perceive dead hours? And also what do you think about preventing them. I've racked my brain and just can't figure out what causes them or how to possibly remedy the situation.............

I think that dead hours are just something that's inevitable, but not really harmful if they're not too frequent throughout the day. If people posted more during them then the issue would be solved, but if everyone's asleep then there's nothing you can do because nobody can post.

Just a matter of scale.

I don't think it needs to be remedied, it's just how it is.

I guess. Can't help what can't be helped.

Good posts take time and being able to keep up with the whole board is nice. Slow imageboards are comfy and much better than 4chan's fast boards with anonymous chat rooms. Of course most people don't think that way but I don't see it as problem because I like the current imageaboard status quo. Also this >>54866

I kind of like it, although it does mean we're missing people in some time zones or those people are being lazy or shy.
It's kind of like the board itself is resting

I compare Kissu's pace of activity to a single thread on slower 4chan board. Sometimes it takes a while to see new post and discussion but it's not too slow to be deleted and you can still monitor it.
But what's important is the userbase should be at healthy level in quantity and quality and I think we're currently doing just fine, at least for me.

What causes them is fairly obvious. People usually aren't glued to their screens enough to keep post activity up. It's also the case that timezones pretty heavily impact these dead hours, since activity typically begins around when EST wakes up and starts dying down when EST goes to bed. In Kissu's case, activity also tends to be lower on the weekends as well. Anyways, I don't really mind them all that much. For the most part these "dead hours," just mean a delay in activity. After all, posting at those times doesn't actually do anything to your post, people will just likely not be around to reply when you are.

It's definitely possible, however, that these dead hours can influence prospective users. Quite a few times there has been people passing through calling Kissu "dead," which can seem a bit odd since Kissu usually receives ~100-150 posts per day. If I had to guess, though, it's probably the length of time for a response that irks people. After all, there's plenty of threads to engage with, so if they really cared about the topic they'd probably stick around and wait rather than getting flustered and giving up.

I mean maybe it's because there are more Europeans on alt boards? In comparison to Americans or the opposite is also possible.

I've always thought that kissu was pretty dead during daytime, but I get a surprising amount of replies when I make a thread during this period now. Sometimes it's just because people are lurking and don't have anything to post but are ready to respond to new content on the board. Be the change you want to see.

>I think that dead hours are just something that's inevitable, but not really harmful
this. it’s a non-issue.

I can't notice this in slow boards because I stop browsing after I leave my post for the day.

I like that smaller imageboards are relatively inactive. It's nice to check in once a day and then go about your business. On more active imageboards (like this one), it's too easy too get sucked into a conversation and spend all day chatting about nothing.

I agree this is one of the more active ones. Probably at least in the top 20 speedwise and if you take out the hima styled blog activity from other sites then kissu may even be in the top 10

Not so sure about how other himablog sites are doing. But I've been keeping tabs on kissu compared to other /jp/ spinoffs these past few days and noticed that compared to hima itself right now, kissu has been faster.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't have much experience with the webring or 8gag, but aren't the more active boards fairly large? Kissu can't really be that high up, can it?

I looked at the webring myself and the only board with a PPH that beats kissu is smug/a/. And even that board's activity is mostly contained within one big himablog thread. It's slower than kissu outside of that.

Oh actually not exactly today. There's one other thread with a bunch of posts outside of their blog that may be more active, not sure. Although I can't say it's appealing to most people here...

The webring took a nosedive a few months ago. Kissu is now the biggest up and comer in the /jp/verse. It's like ota but alive.

I think ota may be almost equally as slow as nen now actually... It's a bit sad

File:[MoyaiSubs] Mewkledreamy -….jpg (438.02 KB,1920x1080)

I've been obsessively doing something else other than posting on kissu and yet the board has been getting faster and faster. It's pretty crazy! Weekends were especially dead, but that might be changing, too. I think kissu's current growth rate is pretty good, slow and steady with assimilation, and as far as I'm aware no one is doing any active advertising.
This thread being this fast on Sunday would be quite unusual a couple months ago.

from what I remember the activity in other threads is on par with what it was on 8/a/

Guess there's never been a real active replacement to 4/a/ then. Which sucks because 4/a/ is trash that I refuse to use.

guess with the political situation surrounding some vtubers of course 8/anything/ would eat it up

File:firefox_rM81jNRGzs.png (15.49 KB,755x178)

A few potentially outpace kissu right now. Although the only definite ones are /vg/ and /a/.

gnfos is fucking fast but it's like /b/ of the spin-offs

File:firefox_DjYfIJM8GK.png (3.87 KB,562x46)

kissu is a lot faster than it as a whole lately.

also, its activity is artificially boosted by a schizo phoneposter that spams garbage there

Uh...? I don't post on gn. Or are there multiple schizo phoneposters?

Schizos tend to like those handy devices...

This board is in it’s ”dead hours” right?
