 No.122445[Last50 Posts]

It's spring!

What are you planning on watching? Have any suggestions or recommendations?

>wind breaker

blehhhh, time to marathon

There's so much sequel or reboot stuff.
Konosuba is only good because Kazuma is a well written character and stuff

I mean I knew I'd never accept it as even close to the original OP, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRL1jSmfIKU it's just impossible to beat a 10/10. At least it's not offensive.

I'm a bit excited for Mushoku S3.

No longer dickless tensei. Now it's womanizer tensei time!

First ep of Shuumatsu Train was insane, very curious to see what the rest of the show will be like.

File:1711306637160.jpg (255.53 KB,1280x1450)

I do not like the colors or the lack of expressions of the new Holo. I grabbed this pic from a shitpost thread on /a/ (that I noticed while scrolling the catalog for manga threads, don't judge me). It does showcase her being less expressive. Her hair color also tends closer to blonde instead of red which is a big miss in my opinion. The reddish brown hair color symbolizes Holo's personality very well. A faint sub-blonde color doesn't.

File:cover.jpg (223.17 KB,1067x1600)

Some people say she looks closer to the LN but I don't see it. Manga Holo is the closest one to the LN in terms of looks and expressions.

Eh. I think it's just nostalgia that's clouding people's vision. If you watch the anime again, pay attention to Holo's height. It's all over the place. In the OP and in early episodes, Holo is only just barely taller than Lawrence's waist, and at other times she's only a head shorter. Inconsistent depictions is on-brand for Spice and Wolf.

>don't judge me)

File:c2ca9faab7f5d5a217ee835452….jpg (51.8 KB,502x486)

I only saved the pic and nothing else, I swear. I did through the archive even.

All Holos are cute.

I don't like the two tone hair she has.

we've been over this enough times for me to say with full confidence that it's not two tone it's just a light gradient

Well it's two tone to me and I don't like it.

dumb contrarian. It's as good as the original with modern advancements in 2D graphics

File:holo the smug wolf.jpg (181.04 KB,1912x1076)

Is preferring some aspects of the original really being 'contrarian'? I feel like you're misusing that term.

Maou Gakuin

All look ebin from the previews.

Really hope there's someone out there that uses Taiga and download this seasons anime info, and now their thumbnails are all shrekified and they're left confused for weeks.

I think it's more judge-worthy that you are embarrassed of having gazed into specific threads.

File:1711828537274.jpg (172.98 KB,1920x1080)

I don't want people to think I'm a shitposter. I post nothing but good. I'm a goodposter.

I'm a two-tone hairposter.

If your posts are so good, do you suppose they would make for decent fertilizer for anon's gardening projects?

this machine creates potato knishes

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (162.55 KB,1920x1080)

My posts being akin to fertilizer would mean they are close to shit, so no. I'm the one who sows the terrains.

Anyway, to get back on track; I see Holo talking with her daughter in the very beginning of the show. I hope that means they are planning to adapt it to that point, because I was expecting S3 at first instead of a reboot.

File:1477549595100.jpg (55.73 KB,530x405)

Is nobody going to watch Kumiko's new show? I watched S1 and S2 but not the movies. Should I jump into this right now or watch the movies first?

I'm catching up on everything first so Date a Live IV, Eupho movies, Maou Gakuin, whatever else I forgot.

File:1489786877939.webm (2.18 MB,1920x1080)

>right now
Wait, it's April 7. I thought it was going to air today.

File:1559583829777.png (483.28 KB,720x720)

I think the first two movies are recaps, but Chikai no Finale and the new Ensemble Contest OVA are part of the story. Liz to Aoi takes place before Ensemble, but it's about side characters and probably won't be that relevant. It is better than the other movies, though.

File:kumiko icecream.jpg (84.65 KB,600x697)

Ensemble Contest is an OVA? It says movie on MAL. It seems to have gone by almost completely unnoticed. I didn't see discussion about it at all.

It's listed as one on Anilist, at least. It's basically a short movie, though. There wasn't much to say about it, it seems like it was mostly a reminder of where we're at with the series, but the fluff does get some development.

File:spring2024.png (1.32 MB,1910x945)

Mahouka and Dorei Elf since I already like the light novels and want to see more anime adaptations.
Maou Gakuin and Lv2 Cheat bc I'm not interested enough (lazy) to read those light novels, so I'll watch the adaptations instead.
Jiisan Baasan seems like a nice chill premise. Not all slow-life shows turn out the way I want, but this one might have potential imo.

>Lv2 Cheat
Reading the title gave me cancer and checking the synopsis made it malignant.

It's the usual fare, but can serve as brain-off viewing to pass the time.

File:[SubsPlease] Henjin no Sal….jpg (234.19 KB,1920x1080)

Salad Bowl seems fun. It reminds me of Pri-chan last season as a 'reverse isekai' with cute girls from fantasy Europe appearing in modern Japan. The girls are very silly and fun. Also there was a nice butt in it. Pri-chan but focused on the parts that were actually good? Lots of potential I think.
Definitely adding this one to the seasonal stream for voting!

File:doggy temple.jpg (194.77 KB,1288x1005)

Anyone watch the new Yuru Camp yet? It's going to be streamed right?

File:[Asenshi] Heya Camp - 04 [….jpg (85.73 KB,1280x720)

Yeah, it's going to be in stream so I'm not going to bother watching it yet to give it a recommendation. It's not really the type of show I'd want to watch an episode of multiple times in such a short period.

File:[SubsPlease] Henjin no Sal….jpg (177.51 KB,1280x720)

I did not like it, but this part gave me an erection so let me know if there's more of that so I can undrop it. I do not care about the nude hag scenes. Don't bother bringing them up.

File:[SubsPlease] Henjin no Sal….jpg (284.26 KB,1920x1080)

One of those people, huh? Well, I'm not sure how well other people will like it. It's not going to amaze people, but it seems fun to me.

those are really blobby shaped feet its offputting

File:[Okay-Subs] Astro Note - 0….jpg (417.37 KB,1920x1080)

Astro Note seems kinda... hmm. It's listed as romcom so that will turn off a lot of people here, but don't know about myself. I like its style and it has a good cast of characters, but somehow it just didn't click for me. If you're one of those food porn people (which seems to be everyone in Japan) then that part would appeal to you I guess. There was a huge teaser/reveal at the end of the first episode, but I don't think it will change things much. It's an anime original, so that's cool!
I really don't know why I can't say I'm a huge fan of it because nothing seems bad about it. I can say for sure that the poor showing of RomComs in seasonal stream means that this doesn't have a chance, though. (but they should)

File:[Okay-Subs] Astro Note - 0….jpg (432.13 KB,1920x1080)

I forgot to say that I'll keep watching more episodes so that's kind of an endorsement of sorts I think? I think it has potential.
Also if you're going to download to try it (which you should) apparently there's some problem with how it was done and mtbb has an upload available on nyaa:

Crunchyroll’s video (and the video of other foreign distributors, like Baha) is missing a field. That means that the image is basically 1920x540. This encode doesn’t restore the missing information, but it at least fixes the aliasing caused by the missing field. Thank you to zewia for identifying the problem. I will keep making these encodes every week until the publisher fixes the issue.

I would assume that it's in CR's (and other <foreign distributors'>) own interests to get this fixed, so messaging them and telling them about the problem should mean that they will appeal to the studio to please send them the correct files.

File:[SubsPlease] Shuumatsu Tra….jpg (448.58 KB,1920x1080)

Train show has an interesting premise and I'm curious to see how it plays out, but I feel like the animation on the animals was lackluster. I guess they're focused on other parts of the show, which is fine, but still I don't like seeing it in the very first episode. Lots of talking. Good soundtrack and some nice visuals outside of what I mentioned earlier.
It kind of reminds me of Wonder Egg and it's also an original so I want to give it a chance just based on that. But will it be good? Not sure...

File:[SubsPlease] Sengoku Youko….jpg (274.34 KB,1920x1080)

Apparently I shouldn't have used Tama in the OP image because while 30ish episodes were listed apparently it's taking a break in spring and coming back in summer. This wasn't how it was shown until a few days ago...

>It kind of reminds me of Wonder Egg
I saw other people saying this and I don't really get it. WEP was always trying to be 2d4u, which set it up to either succeed hard or fail harder. This was much more comedy-based so it doesn't have as far to fall even if it does fuck up. The comparison just seems like trainwreck chasing to me.

There was a show a few seasons back with virtually the same premise that I found unimpressive, so it fell victim to the rest of the season being so stacked for me. I'm not gonna miss a food porn show.

If it's from a reliable studio it won't disappoint

File:[SubsPlease] Madome - 01 (….jpg (254.94 KB,1920x1080)

I like Madome. It was kind of meh at the beginning, but I quickly warmed up to it. It's a somewhat cliche premise of a guy being shocked and flustered when he sees a cute innocent girl. He he's a demon lord sorcerer that bought an elf slave girl after a 'love at first' thing. It features the dreaded R word as a tag so I don't expect it to be very popular around here. Sigh.

File:[SubsPlease] Re Monster - ….jpg (347.35 KB,1920x1080)

Re Monster had a pretty fun first episode, but the first few episodes of these isekai shows are generally the best as it falls off massively once he's no longer gaining strength rapidly and is instead fighting a big evil or other stuff that drags on. Most of these iskai shows should really only be about 3-4 episodes long.
Also, huh, it's DEEN. Interesting.

> once he's no longer gaining strength rapidly
You have no idea what series you are talking about.
He does pursue minor goals (like saving a princess from some weird coup), but the one constant of it all is him building up himself and his clan to grow ever stronger.

File:The Fable - S01E01 - 1080p….jpg (194.55 KB,1920x1080)

Fable seems good. I really like the atmosphere and style, but it's hard to comment on much it after one episode. "Guy adjusts to his new life" but he's not really in it yet. 25 episodes apparently.

File:[ASW] Soredemo Ayumu wa Yo….jpg (230.82 KB,1920x1080)

The source material is pretty good, but this seems like a "season 1 only" type of show, so I wouldn't get too invested unless you plan on reading the manga as well.

File:[SubsPlease] Shuumatsu Tra….jpg (244.45 KB,1920x1080)

>I saw other people saying this and I don't really get it
I think it's because it's girls talking and talking in a similar kind of environment. It's hard to explain. It could be that the other episodes are able to be more true to the name of the show itself, though.

In case you weren't aware, they released 2 episodes of it at once. The first one didn't sell me on it but the second one was cute and made me more likely to stick with it.

Oh, I forgot about that. Yeah, I'll have to watch it later...

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (441.67 KB,1920x1080)

The new Spice and Wolf ending is, dare I say, superior to the originals. I didn't like either of them that much at the time.

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (454.17 KB,1920x1080)

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (152.63 KB,1920x1080)

My fears about lack of wolfbutt in the new adaptation were resolved in the first 3 minutes of ep 2.

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (174.13 KB,1920x1080)

It may not be big, but hey, as long as it's there.

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (192.37 KB,1920x1080)

Last wolfbutt. Holo on all fours does things to me.

File:belly.png (5.24 KB,101x49)

butt this butt that, sure
but would you look at that belly

I noticed that, too. That's quite nice

File:[Spirale] Spice and Wolf -….jpg (343.64 KB,1920x1080)

I fell in love with Holo for her personality. Do they still banter back and forth? Does Lawrence have confidence?

korbo looks preggo.

File:Screenshot_1712657638.png (1.38 MB,1680x1050)

One Room, Hiatari Futsuu, Tenshi-tsuki looks like a fun anime, towa a cute.

File:Screenshot_1712658276.png (1.3 MB,1680x1050)

the cutest...
Wish I'd got a tenshi-tsuki room.

File:[Thonk] Ookami to Koushinr….jpg (221.53 KB,1920x1080)

It's mostly the same regarding that. There are a few key differences in the reboot compared to the original that I noticed however (I'm also watching the original afterwards in order for the reboot to not override my memory of it):
- Chloe is replaced by a guy called "Yarei" in order to fulfill her role of pretending to be Holo in the festival (it's like that in the LN/manga too)
- The vegetation is more lush, green and vivid (this seems to be due to the original apparently taking place in Autumn. Not sure which season it is in the reboot)
- The couple at the beginning of ep 2 is younger
- Holo doesn't shake her tail to dry herself (a real shame, I loved that scene)
- There isn't a rainbow over the church
And also minor nitpicking stuff like Holo doing the whiskers with her fingers instead of 'drawing' them in the air: >>122457 I do still stand by what I said here though. There was no need to change her design that much.

File:[Thonk] Ookami to Koushinr….jpg (244.76 KB,1920x1080)

Another very important difference: Holo doesn't call potatoes evil in the reboot.

File:[Thonk] Ookami to Koushinr….jpg (485.54 KB,1920x1080)

This looks like Autumn vegetation to me. It's not present in the reboot.

File:[Thonk] Ookami to Koushinr….jpg (353.3 KB,1920x1080)

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (350.05 KB,1920x1080)

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (400.82 KB,1920x1080)

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (324.07 KB,1920x1080)

File:[Thonk] Ookami to Koushinr….jpg (214.37 KB,1920x1080)

Why did they remove the rainbow... it makes sense because rainbows show up after it rains.

File:[Thonk] Ookami To Koushin….webm (731.55 KB,1280x720)

Bonus shaky shaky fluffy tail which is not present in the reboot.

7th prince manga has some very good fanservice

File:Go! Go! Loser Ranger! - S0….jpg (423.03 KB,1920x1080)

Sentai Daishikkaku or uhhhh "Go Go Loser Ranger" looks pretty cool. Its premise is explicitly anti-status quo and that makes me wonder how far they'll go with it. It immediately strikes you with some 3D which it uses a lot of but decently, but the 2D they're certainly not skimping on. I do like me some meta, and the way it uses on-screen text reminds of KLK too.
Yeah, the second episode kept up its great visuals while setting the powerlevel bar way higher AND featured an even cuter double ouji. It's a shame it's getting dropped.

File:[ASW] Henjin no Salad Bowl….png (5.29 MB,1920x1080)

Salad Bowl is great. Love it.

File:[SubsPlease] Henjin no Sal….jpg (362.93 KB,1920x1080)

I strongly agree and I hope the other characters are just as fun as the two already shown. I'm hoping the characters stay separated for a long time and have their own subplots.

File:[ASW] Henjin no Salad Bowl….png (5.9 MB,1920x1080)

>I'm hoping the characters stay separated for a long time and have their own subplots.
Yeah, but seeing the next episode preview Sara's already going to be meeting Livia in episode 2. Kind of want her and the homeless guy's plot to progress too.

File:[ASW] Henjin no Salad Bowl….png (4.97 MB,1920x1080)

wrong image but oh well, cant go wrong with cute

Oh. I tune out of the previews. That's a shame. I like it when characters can shine on their own and highlight their own personalities and growth. Oh, well. They're still nice.

No, they don't.
They show up if you are looking at rain that is reflecting the sun behind you.

File:891c8045cbb967323be04e9aad….png (446.37 KB,445x700)

You forgot your nerd glasses image.

WTF doxxing is against the rules!

The train anime looks fun. More fun than watching sexual-assualt tensei or this-wolf-is-nothing-like-the-old-one

It's basically the same thing, nitpicking an adaptation to death that may end up adapting the whole thing is a great way to never get a full adaptation. It's not like the original was some spectacularly high budget adaptation in the first place either.

File:12. Kino no Tabi - the Bea….jpg (37.7 KB,710x478)

That's true though.

File:1444143790189.gif (201.87 KB,336x336)

Assuming we get past the point where S2 ended... if not I'm going to be pretty pissed. But criticism is still important. There's a chance that they may change Holo's design to be more similar to the original.

you're getting angry at a studio's internal style

speaking of which... it's pretty hilarious that people consider it censored when it's drawn by Passione

Anyways, this is what your great Spice and Wolf style amounted to after Imagin studios rebranded as A1C and managed a bunch of hentai sublabels. https://hanime.tv/videos/hentai/isekai-harem-monogatari-1?playlist_id=thhecpyzb3mm8xpwe3d4 so maybe your idealism isn't anything ideal and just a fad of the past you need to get over?

File:Spice & Wolf v06 (Yen Pres….jpg (423.31 KB,1067x1600)

Personally I want a more manga holo design

File:1635710093012.jpg (146.76 KB,1920x1080)

But they made Higurashi and Mieruko-chan look good. High School DxD Hero looked okay too. Holo is their only miss so far.

It's their only miss to you because you're so attached to it having to look the exact same as the old.

File:1666365168307.jpg (137.28 KB,1920x1080)

I've already explainable my gripes with it in: >>122457
If she looked more similar to Miko I wouldn't have a problem. Her lips also lack volume unlike hers. Original/LN Holo has fuller lips.

File:[ASW] Spice and Wolf (2024….jpg (264.78 KB,1920x1080)

There is no reason to not give Holo fuller lips in fact, because Lawrence's are very evident, so it's not like they aren't capable of incorporating it into the artstyle. I think Lawrence's new design looks good by the way, he looks a bit more handsome than the old one (no homo).

File:[DKB] Sentai Daishikkaku -….png (6.58 MB,1920x1080)

Sentai Daishikkaku looks like a promising show. Very invested in it right from the get go.

Also, the OP is pretty nice too.

File:[DKB] Yozakura-san Chi no ….png (6.58 MB,1920x1080)

Another promising show! This season is looking to be great so far! Possibly chose the best season to break out of my anime watching hiatus!

I don't know that I like the line work of that image, the faces look sharp and pointy. But then that's often the case with anime, you don't notice these things while watching them but some screenshots can come out like that.

File:565438f6850e3da830b9e1a5a7….gif (14.58 KB,700x500)

>I don't know that I like
Anyway, they give sharp features to anime characters when they are meant to be beautiful/sexy for the most part. Otherwise they go for a more rounded style if cuteness is the main goal.

File:Spice & Wolf v01 (2010) (D….jpg (707.74 KB,900x1350)

It must be said that manga Holo looks like a loli in some panels with how round she is.

What sound do you get if you poke those cheeks?

It's not that that I am talking about. It's hard to explain.

She does give a bit of a computer-generated impression.

Other than that, perhaps you are annoyed by the fineness of the line-art in modern anime in general. (which is a result of increased resolutions)

The fine lines are not the issue either.

I don't like the fine lines too much either. They seem more prone to getting damaged by bad compression.

How does restaurant to another world compare to dungeon meshi?

Dungeon Meshi's food parts are exotic and filled with marceil calling them fools for liking to eat monsters they kill. Meshi is also 70% action 30% food

thank you for the answer

File:Dungeon Meshi - S01E11 (10….jpg (692.54 KB,1920x1080)

Yeah, Dungeon Meshi was heavily food focused at beginning but turned into an adventure with food on the side. I only watched a couple episodes of the restaurant isekai one and it was heavily focused on food and the restaurant itself. They did have a hamburger episode which I think was 2 or 3, so that's worth something. Dungeon Meshi really stands above it for various reasons, but if you're one of those people that love seeing characters eat and talk about eating then restaurant isekai could fill those needs (alongside 50,000 other shows)

File:[ASW] Henjin no Salad Bowl….png (5.31 MB,1920x1080)

>I'm hoping the characters stay separated for a long time and have their own subplots.
Looks like they might just be going for this! Livia is deemed too unfit for being a tantei and back to being homeless.

File:[EMBER] Madome - 01.mkv_mp….png (6.7 MB,1920x1080)

Pretty elf girl and autistic maou, love it.

File:[SubsPlease] Tadaima, Okae….jpg (334.85 KB,1920x1080)

So basically this is the gay fujo version of futa? How come this gets an anime before any proper futa story

>Omegaverse autism got into anime
Wow, I'm surprised even though I shouldn't be.
>gay fujo version of futa
I guess but I thought mpreg filled that role.

Omegaverse is mpreg, just with a bunch of additional lore.

File:[Gematria] Blue Archive Th….jpg (341.03 KB,1920x1080)

I wasn't expecting much, but even then Blue Archive is disappointing. It did make one correct choice and that is giving the /qa/ voice the opening lines. I guess I should say that I have no knowledge of Blue Archive so I went in blind. I just can't get into it at all. I don't like how the visuals are all blurry and stiff. I don't like the weird static combat going on (obviously a game thing). I don't like the weird pacing and scene switching. The attempts at humor were really bland. I REALLY don't like the visuals.
I'm sure Blue Archive fans are getting a kick out of seeing their slot machine JPEGs with more frames, but judging this on its merits as an anime... bleh.

well gacha anime tie-ins being bad is par for the course, priconne and and uma musume being one of the few notable exceptions to the rule

File:Go.Go.Loser.Ranger.S01E02.….jpg (215.8 KB,1920x1080)

I watched the second episode of the Sentai show and I have to say that the first episode did a poor job of selling it, although it had hints of where it was going. There's still comedy elements, but this is definitely a serious show and it seems pretty good. The only thing that has me worried is that this is a studio that normally does gacha adaptations, including Blue Archive right now. Huh? I know there's lot of studios going assistance and other weird things behind the scenes, but how does that work?
Also that guy from SSSS.Dyna-whatever is in it. Good for him.

File:Go.Go.Loser.Ranger.S01E02.….jpg (231.17 KB,1920x1080)

>Also that guy from SSSS.Dyna-whatever is in it. Good for him.
See? Look, it's him. He finally got enough sleep and his eyes look a lot better.

I thought the first episode sold it pretty well. But it might suffer a mid season recap episode

I can't take anything with a sentai setup seriously. It's even worse than dark n' gritty capeshit. If you can't maintain a constant stream of "I'll ignore how stupid this is because it's so fucking cool" moments then the entire thing falls apart.

File:solo leveling long panels.png (6.43 MB,1313x6897)

Anonymous posted about manwha it in the blog thread and I'll move a step up from that by moving to here. They were quoting this article:
The pro-manwha argument boils down to this: manwha is better suited to phones, phones are everywhere, therefore it's easier for growth to be had.

The problems that come with it the writer admits in their second paragraph:
>Some of the best aspects of manga like double-page spreads, and unique paneling do not always translate well to a vertical scroll format like that of manhwa.
Then immediately contradicts it in the next part:
>That said, manhwa's vertical scrolling style does not sacrifice any of the advantages offered by manga's unique paneling. Similar to manga, vertical scrolling can also control the pacing, tension, time, and flow of the story being told.
This isn't true, he's obviously bullshitting. Especially because of this other idea quoting from a head honcho:
>The very act of scrolling to read gives it a kind of feeling of movement, such as the movement of a gave or flow of time.
If you don't like them you'll say it's dumb from the get-go but even if you're a supporter I'm certain it's more of a novelty than anything. Good manga convey this flow through their paneling, that's basic stuff, Mr. Bum Gang is essentially celebrating the fact that webtoons have pidgeonholed themselves into a single panel structure. Solo Leveling manages to have wide shots of battlefields by tilting its panels in a way that is honestly rather interesting (pictured: chapters 165 and 135 respectively), but these are things that would be typically be achieved via a spread which is infinitely more workable and readable not only as a book but with a tablet or PC. Even on mobile the way it asks you to tilt your head is wonky. And if a manhwa wants to, for example, show a group of people in any setting like a room, it often has to cut what would otherwise be a single image in half then put the two disconnected panels one below the other and this does happen very many times. The amount of versatility it loses is greater that it seems at first.

But the real kicker is that if you look at the paperback here, you'll see it's essentially an adaptation:
Why? Because suddenly you have to refactor this single loooong strip into a book and that requires rearranging its panels into the traditional configuration since that's the way that makes sense for anything that isn't a phone. And paperbacks are how you make money, not webtoons, so you're banking on people purchasing an inferior product as your method of income unless you're planning out both formats in tandem and then that demands extra work from everyone involved when at first I'm not sure there's even a guarantee it'll sell whereas a manga comes bundled in magazines getting at least somewhat of a headstart from that. These divergences are non-trivial in both the short and long term, putting aside that Korea doesn't have anywhere the level of refinement Japan's culture industry has evidenced by the fact its animation is Japanese-made.
Finally, I'd disagree with >>123094 because the article states these chapters are pre-made as a whole and then distributed in batches, circumventing the usual problem of burning out from a constant schedule. The one truly interesting comment from the article is that apparently they're including sound effects and animation too, which makes me think they're gonna be going down the Homestuck route funnily enough. Evolutionary convergence and alla dat jazz, though again gimped.

I can't see how that principle wouldn't apply to any sort of non-realist fiction.

People have said that Ruedeus gets more developed as a character, but what's really shocking and more people are realizing it... is that he doesn't actually undergo any character development but he adjusts his character flaws to fit into a world and writing that bends over backwards to conform to him

I quoted only the sections which were direct paraphrases of something someone in the Manhwa industry authorized

>Mr. Bum Gang

There's a saying in software engineering
> Fail fast fail often
The more rough and rapid pace of manga means that ideas can get cancelled much easier and there's a greater emphasis on presenting things as interestingly as possible on as little a budget.
The inherent problem with the coloring approach where they write up the entire story then release it weak by week, is they have to do market analysis ahead of time to determin what is good or ornot. This encourages only the safe decisions to be made while shonen jump can take more risks and cut an author if he isn't up to par with what people are feeling right now

Well, in SL's case the source is a web novel and the story is already written so that's not a problem. That's also true for others I've seen recommended like The Greatest Estate Developer, Return of the Mount Hua Sect, or Omniscient Reader. On top of that, I doubt most manga are actually that reactive when they don't have the obligation to keep going as it happens with the giants, though it's not something I can say I've looked into.

as much as I think the Death Note team is a bunch of hacks and this story is F tier, in terms of giving a purely monitary look at how the manga industry works, I believe it's pretty believable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakuman and a large part of it is that there's a lot of reactivity and that people can settle into established tropes, but it can be soul crushing if they don't enjoy it.

> WN vs manga
I'm not sure how different that is from manga as well, but for people who try to get spots in serializations I believe it's a matter of submitting one shots to industry's and building an internal reputation as a reliable author

>Because suddenly you have to refactor this single loooong strip into a book and that requires rearranging its panels into the traditional configuration since that's the way that makes sense for anything that isn't a phone.
Not a fan of manhwa, but I don't see why they don't just print vertical books. It would be easy to create a book that's 10cm on the x axis and 30cm on the y axis, and has its back at the top.
It would not be easy to store this book alongside traditional books, but if you're a manhwa fan and buy lots of them, that's not an issue.

Once the artist knows to split panels aftre every x pixels to account for pages, you can have your cake and eat it too.

We've talked about the artstyle/design changes in Spice and Wolf, but what about Yuru Camp? What does /qa/ think of the new artstyle/designs of the new season? The reason for it is that it's made by a different studio now, 8bit. The previous seasons and the movie were made by "C-Station" (never heard of them before Yuru Camp). It can be a bit hard to get used to I suppose, but there's nothing particularly bad about the new designs in my opinion, they're just different.

The main difference is the eyes. The eyes of the new one are more detailed with more light reflections.

I am genuinely happy with the change. But don't ask me why.

second biggest difference is the hair rin's two images showcase that well

File:Mission.Yozakura.Family.S0….mp4 (7.89 MB,1280x720)

Good dumb chuuni fun. I think I'll like this show

File:yozakura.mp4 (4.45 MB,1280x720)

(episode 2 end of Yozakura so a bit of a spoiler I guess, but nothing major)
Good humor, too. People on anilist said it really picks up later on so I'm curious to see where it goes. I'm hoping protag gets some sort of skill, but I guess if he's the 'normal' guy that barely scrapes by when surrounded by superhumans that could be alright if it's done well.

File:[ASW] Kaijuu 8-gou - 01 [1….jpg (261.61 KB,1920x1080)

No one watched Kaijuu yet? One of the standouts of the season in my opinion. The kaijuus were fully 2D so far. Off to a good start. This is definitely worth a check if you have watched some Godzilla movies before like I did.

I watched the trailer and can safely say I had zero interest. It just didn't' click for me, but I also don't like kaijuu stuff. Seems unique, at least.

I liked the novelty of the first episode with the deadbeat just cleaning up monster guts but not sure how I feel if the rest is just going to be Shingeki no Kyojin played straight.

I like how the anime has done it in the new episode. Livia doesn't have to constantly worry that her princess is in danger, and can go about living her life and trying to make progress in the modern world.

File:[SubsPlease] Kaijuu 8-gou….webm (12.81 MB,1920x1080)

Holy hell, thanks for pointing this out. I was pretty much wrapping up my filters and cutting out everything not already in my list since it's week 3 but I definitely wouldn't have wanted to miss out on this.

The animation extremely high quality for something I heard absolutely nothing about beforehand, and I really love beautifully detailed 2D monsters. Though I'm not entirely sure that it was wholly 2D. I'm pretty sure I can see a bit of 3D in here, but it's not at all extremely standout or an eyesore. If it is CG then non-toei/orange studios are really making strides into perfecting the mixing of the two. At first I was mostly just passively interested thinking it to he a work anime but the hook at the end has me interested in seeing more as maybe this could be a cooler version of Mato Seihei from last season. Or maybe something a bit close to Witchblade. I'd dig that.

File:[Piyoko] Himitsu no AiPri ….jpg (180.96 KB,1920x1080)

AiPri is certainly the screenshot show of the season, but that might not be surprising

File:[ASW] Henjin no Salad Bowl….png (4.28 MB,1920x1080)

Very curious if I will fall for the brainwashing or not, with the subliminal messaging and what not.

File:2.mp4 (29.05 MB,1280x720)

I guess I should give my basic opinion. It's kind of what you'd expect from a Pri show. Nothing terribly exciting, but it's cute. The 3D for the singing segments is pretty good, although I'd of course prefer for them to be 2D. Definitely a recommended show if you like this kind of thing, but yeah it's not going to blow your socks off or anything.

Yeah, they're definitely getting better at their 3D. Soon enough they'll be up to speed with Toei, hopefully...

Huh, something too strange to be a coincidence. The Sentai show shares the same OP musician AND the same ED musician as Idaten. I think the OP looks kind of similar style-wise, too.

File:rambo camp.png (721.64 KB,1128x1600)

So the reason the new Yuru Camp artstyle is different isn't really because of the studio, but because that's what the recent manga art looks like. They're just being faithful to it. The earlier artstyle looked more like the first two seasons.

Aso, Rin is hardcore as hell there. Pic related. This part almost plays like this meme: >>123199 compared to: >>123163

File:new rin.png (1.28 MB,1351x1920)

New manga art looks the same as S3.

the first person perspective of womanizer tensei makes the slice of life stuff such a major slog.

What's the lineup for next Saturday? I might have skipped a few episodes and want to catch back up.

I won't make any judgements of 4 until I see it, but episode 3 was great. It went in a direction I wasn't expecting and it made it better.

I can see how they're going to use it to sell a video game world

funny because the studio is yostar

the manga has 135 chapters, there's no videogame

File:Go! Go! Loser Ranger! - S0….jpg (263.27 KB,1920x1080)

Oh, you're taking that one line more literally than I did about the weapons being cheat items? That did seem weird, but I don't know how to interpret it. It could just be an expression. I mean, it's a world with superheroes and immortal monsters.

No, I mean I can see this as a kind of world where the lowlings end up becoming more powerful and it transitions into a game where you build your mob character

File:question knight.jpg (272.83 KB,1920x1080)

Anyone else think the Train show dropped a lot in quality? It started out interesting but got progressively worse with each ep.

Uh, huh. Interesting. I actually saw this comment on anilist a few weeks ago and people weren't sure whether he was exaggerating or doing an April 1st thing or letting off steam or what: https://anilist.co/forum/thread/72855

>Tsutomu Mizushima, director of the new original anime “Train to the End of the World (Shuumatsu Train Doko and Iku?)” produced by EMT Squared studios and released this week.
>Although initial impressions have been positive, it was director Tsutomu Mizushima who threw the bucket of cold water on Twitter, revealing that they haven't even finished the fourth episode yet. While it is normal within the anime industry for episodes to be finished a few hours (or sometimes even minutes) before they air on television, generally the only thing missing are small production details.
>However, the words used by the director in question have made it clear that it is not “small details” that are missing:
>The fourth episode is not ready yet. Is it okay for me to post on Twitter about this? Don't know. Please continue to support us over the next three months, even if it seems like a short time

I won't be watching episode 4 until Saturday, but 3 was great and if there's really a decline then I guess he was entirely truthful and worried.

File:C-1713818802595.webp (42 KB,384x960)

it's a cool post-apocolypse world. Doesn't need lots of character stuff.

Akira's animation and design reminds me of that GuPz girl

Watching the latest episode it definitely seems like the animation suffers in some places but the story is too good to ignore. Maybe with better budget and planning it could have been something greater but it's still very enjoyable. Really looking forward to the rest of it.

>the story is too good to ignore
The setting is cool but the plot is a bit weak in my opinion. They're not taking full advantage of it.

Yeah, the plot simply consists of an episodic search so far with a bunch of surrealism, a good ol' odyssey, though the shroom chapter was pretty tropey compared to what came before it.

Also, would you compare it to Sonny Boy? I don't think it's going as far as it did.

It should have been pretty clear that it was going to be very episodic due to them literally having a list of stations to go through, no?
Things are moving quite nicely on the background, and the open world leaves a lot for theorizing. Things like the map, the acceptance of the inhabitants of each station of their condition, the stories mentioned during the flashbacks becoming reality... I think it's rather nice. The whole thing also fills me with a sense of dread that I rarely feel.

No, because it's actually good.

Would you be saying that if it weren't for the ending?

I was thinking about Sentai's plot a bit, not a spoiler manga reader, but it seems like Blue got coup'd. So I'm not sure if D is dead or not and it if it's just a prank

I dropped Sonny Boy at episode 3 and only went back to finish it because the people calling it AOTY strongarmed me into it. It was a bad show all throughout, with the possible exception of episode 4, and was only bearable when Y.Aoi was talking.

File:mizuho burg.jpg (206.23 KB,1280x720)

File:[Asakura] Tensei Shitara S….jpg (298.43 KB,1920x1080)

Then I ended up watching the old OVAs and it reminded me why I kinda hated the old slime before Rimuru became a Demon Lord, and it's how odd everything feels. There's a distinct lack of maturity and misalignment of actions/consequences and what's shown on screen. It never really felt like anything mattered much either and was just happening because it advanced the story, I guess in short it lacked purpose. Like with this scene where the kids are ambushed by some thieves inhabiting the cave they were meant to train in and get into a fight. It's treated as more of a joke encounter where the villains are beaten up and arrested but at one point the bandit leader slashes one of the kids across the stomache drawing blood. You'd think this would be a serious event but he's just healed up quickly and it's also passed off as part of the joke.... It just feels off.

File:1491901532273.jpg (80.2 KB,1280x720)

Actually why is Slime so insanely popular in the first place? IT doesn't really do anything different or exceptionally well. It's not even really the most well animated of the bunch. It just kinda exists as a likeable product.

think of it like the replacement to "Fairy Tail" in the age-demographic

File:demog.jpg (329.21 KB,1920x1080)

I guess that kinda makes sense. All the other isekai either target teens or adults or are extremely turd-like.

i wouldn't say that any isekai other than the older ones target a more mature demographic. Most of them are very childlike

yeah very childlike but usually in a more teeny way
slime's kinda really tame in comparison

like usually other isekai are ripe with irony or meta jokes or edge

Isn't salad bowl's OP similar to tatami galaxy...

I think it actually targets an older demographic. Its appeal is in how it delves into the organizational aspect of things.
Then you would be very wrong, unless you use "mature" just as an insult against adults who like isekai.

File:[SubsPlease] Astro Note - ….jpg (235.17 KB,1920x1080)

Astro Note is really fun! >>>/poll/4076 seems to be right and it's getting a bit crazier as the mp4 I posted in >>123800 kind of hints at. It's still quite restrained, but the groundwork is there. The wild stuff is good, but the regular human interaction between fun characters is the highlight to me.
I think people will regret watching this 'live' if they miss out on it.

File:[Nekomoe kissaten&LoliHous….png (4.9 MB,1920x1080)

Love the tenshi anime
cant believe it will end in just eight episodes.......

I've been thinking about it more and I think salad bowl was inspired a lot by the director style of Yuasa who did Eizouken, Mind Game, Tatami galaxy etc.

and the art style of One Room

You think Salad Bowl was? What makes you say that.

funny horo ear dance gif!

I only really see similarities between the OPs. It sounds somewhat similar and uses real life imagery like the Tatami Galaxy OP.

Is it just me or is Salad Bowl's art quality dropping?

File:[SubsPlease] Henjin no Sal….jpg (495.51 KB,1920x1080)

Hmm I'll give you my opinion in a couple days when I watch the latest episode. That's unfortunate if it's true, although it's not really a spectacular looking show to begin with (but still fantastic)

There's a lot of contenders for kissu's AOTS this season. Two originals (Jellyfish and Train), Konosuba, Yuru Camp, Urusei Yatsura, and Spice and Wolf. Surprisingly, my favorite isn't among these.

Spice and Wolf will always be one of my favorite anime of all time so I think it's unfair for me to really consider it in this season when it's a remake.

File:[SubsPlease] Henjin no Sal….jpg (272.56 KB,1920x1080)

I've watched it now. I don't really sense any quality drop. Maybe you're referring to the moments of talking where it wasn't animated much? That wasn't really new to this episode.

He's referring to the two-tone hair.

Womanizer tensei was alright, because it didn't have Rudy be a hero. But the plot completely sidestepped the idea that she hates her brother and redirected the idea that she has contempt for being compared to him onto some monologues about him being misunderstood. Makes no sense, human god at it again distorting all logic.

Oh no, turning point 3

The cutest 3D wolf!

Ok. So here's the setup, Norn doesn't want to be compared to her brother because she thinks he's a bad person. So she decides to shut herself away to stop being compared to him.
But why does she shy away from saying that she doesn't like him or show external frustration in it?
The story presents it not as a situation where the comparision itself is bad, but that she's seen as having to strive towards an objective of becoming like her brother who she doesn't like.
If she doesn't like someone and realizes they're not a bad person does that solve the issue of being constantly seen as someone's brother ?
Wounds don't heal in a night though, it's not a realistic way for a person to resolve the situation. They would be more ambivalent to the idea of someone's existence, but they wouldn't outright accept them right away. It would still be annoying.
So Norn smilling at rudeus doesn't actually make sense.

But then this setup is just about Norn removing herself from society over her brother. Such a thing seems rather odd since not everything the school talks about is her brother. She would be able to escape it to some degree and go somewhere else. Someone like her would probably just run away into the city, but we can't have a female character engaging with someone male off screen if it's not about sex.
Again the story portrays everything a character directly involved with Rudeu's revolving around his existence

Just weak writting.

also you might have missed it, but turning point 3 So I think the plot will start moving back towards magic and mystery rather than how hard Rudy's life is. Which is good

File:[MTBB] Mushoku Tensei S2 -….jpg (284.19 KB,1920x1080)

Mmm, yeah I can't really disagree. It was completely centered around Rudeus, but that's basically the entire theme of the show. It adds to the whole isekai fantasy about being the center of the universe. It really is strange how the situation is considered fixed now. I guess it's possible that the LN has more nuance since it has far more time to do things, but probably not.

This nuance is why the Monogatari series is good. Because when it starts getting more into the characters it presents situations in ways that they're not resolved, but the characters can move on with their lives

The development was a bit fast, I can agree on that. But I don't think you're quite on the mark about why Norn was removing herself from class and holing up in her room. In part I think you could say that she thought Rudeus was a bad person, but that thought process didn't really align with all the events that occurred after she arrived at his mansion, nor did it line up with the impressions of Rudeus others around her had. In this way Norn was being stubborn because the first impression of Rudeus she had was so strong that she couldn't simply let it go and instead chose to deny reality. Wanting to get away from her brother and have nothing to do with him, she's assaulted by the barrage of questions asked of her and comparisons made between her and Rudeus. But because of her own willful retention of that first impression and denial of Rudeus she's unable to form connections with those around her through small talk which is most always started through trying to form a connection with her through her brother given his fame. She doesn't make her dislike known to everyone though so she isolates herself instead hating the expectations placed on her by the person she sees as trash. Rudeus opening himself up to her and apologizing works more as a way to show his own vulnerability and offer Norn a way to view him without seeing it as a facade to trick her. In that sense it's able to break through those first impressions and allow herself to accept him as her brother.

I think the author probably suffered as a hikkikomori himself for a time and as such wanted to write a nice recovery for Norn that breaks her out of her shell and allows her to live a happy life. It's more self-fulfillment fantasy on his end than an analysis of the greater human condition like Monogatari.

tsukimichi is really flippin annoying to watch in weekly format
definitely the kind of anime to watch all at once

rudeus just needs to flip norn already

Did it start getting good enough to feel like one episode isn't enough?

has always been the same for me
but I am a biased manga reader

thought it was interesting but the plot was too free form

I don't think it's really a matter of something being good enough or not to need more than an episode. I can watch an episode of Hidamari or Aria, and even some more plot heavy anime while feeling totally satisfied. But with Tsukimichi every episode feels like it's running out of time to get to something interesting and is always just building up to things more than executing those build-ups. Leading you to want for those moments more and just get the buildup over with already. It'd be better if I were marathoning it since I'd be able to reach the satisfying pay off asap instead of needing to wait a week to see if something happens this episode or not. All watching it weekly really does is make me feel impatient.

Also probably doesn't help that there's not much to dwell on in an episode so all I'm really left with is a desire to be entertained more.

File:[SubsPlease] Henjin no Sal….jpg (261.38 KB,1920x1080)

I really like Salad Bowl a lot. The episodes are so random, and yet they're done so well. Episode 6 with Livia had her modeling for 3D scans with a cult leader so they could sell figurines of her. Meanwhile episode 7 with the loli has them tailing a guy at a horse race to look for dirt on him. Both episodes are full of other wackiness (and even a bit of seriousness) and I just feel like saying again how much I like this show.
These storylines are fun and yet empathetic at the same time.
This season is stronger than it appeared at first.

>this season is stronger
Indeed! Lots of anime I'm actually excited to watch this season! Very fun season!
