 No.113881[Last50 Posts]

Finally started my "buyfag" life; albeit not anywhere near the level I've dreamt of, with only second hand stuff so far.
What anime goods have you bought /qa/?

 No.113883

Absolutely nothing! I thought about it, though. I made a thread a few months ago, but I never went through with anything. >>99803
Utawarerumono stuff is still practically non-existent for whatever reason.

Okay, "a few months" ago is last year apparently. Oops.

 No.113887

I have some Fumos and some figs and some books, the usual stuff.

 No.113888

God I miss Yuni-sama.

>What anime goods have you bought /qa/?
I mostly buy media like manga and art books, never really been one for decorative items. Though you could argue manga also becomes mostly decorative after I'm done reading it... I do have a few posters and tapestries, as well as an acrylic stand of Maetel from Ginga Tetsudou 999.

I only have a manga set of Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou and a copy of the Little Witch Academia manga. I'm not super big on buyfag stuff, I try not to accrue dead weight, but if money was no option and I had a place to store it all I'd probably pick up a ton of figs of my favorite characters, and build a library of manga/artbooks. Maybe a throw in a daki, onaho and a small family of fumos.

I have a sayopony artbook. That's about it.

 No.113893

I have a sizable amount of manga and other books, but other than that rather little - I've picked up a few things, like a keychain, a t-shirt (for an anime I haven't even watched), and a handful of gacha machine items, when I've been to Japan, and I have also bought a couple of second-hand figurines for cheap locally, but that's about it.

i've never had much money, so i haven't bought anywhere near as much anime/manga stuff as i'd like. i do buyfag for games often, though. i like getting special/limited editions that come with artbooks and soundtrack CDs.

I did consider buying some second hand Touhou figures just recently but I dropped the idea. I'm not big on buyfagging. However I do plan on getting this Alice noodle stopper when it comes out in January.

Bought stuff at the Miku Expo this weekend.
I also make it a tradition to buy at least one Miku figure every convention I go to. I'm starting to run out of room for them, but I'll hold off on buying a display case or something since I'll probably move soon and don't want to buy more furniture.

More powerful than you could possibly imagine. She can even do it while pouting. Pouts and question marks, a true kissu girl. She's so fun and cute that I could see myself getting a figure of her if I had the money. The anime should make her popular enough to get some figures I would hope, although it was already a cult hit with the manga.

I was thinking that maybe the Japan-Rabbit branding targeted it as a possible source of confiscation materials. I think I'll try customizing my next delivery of tapestries to try and minimize the branding, but something in the delivery system auto-flagged it so I dunno what my options are if some of these items get looked at the wrong way. From what I gather they typically just confiscate materials that are too obscene and don't like to escalate beyond that.

He's probably right that they're just opening every package and checking for fent. If they are then they're most likely doing a hastily job checking everything and if there's no fent just sending it through because they're too overworked to care.

 No.141020

From what I read they tend to flag first time imports. And I don't think they actually got to know "what" the tapestries were, but they knew they were tapestries, and they probably could deduce it was pornographic based on some other things that were layed out at the top of the package. And they tore open some sealed bags to see what was inside. They didn't open any of the tapestries though.

I don't think they took anything out but they unwrapped bubble wrap on one pair. I dunno. Makes me more nervous to ship in anything explicit. If you're wondering how the CBSA determines if something is prohibited, they have two people and both have to agree that it's explicit and should be confescated. Then you can contest the results.

Gotta protect Canada against the flat chest menace.

 No.141774

I think tapestries probably get flagged with higher probability. The long cylindrical rods wrapped in fabric for Xray, higher prices and lower weight to price ratio probably causes the system to flag it as a potentially risky item. So they open it up and just do some checks to see that it's nothing serious.
Given that the two items opened by CBSA were tapestry shipments while the other was not.. and given how this isn't a common occurrence on Reddit makes me think it's about package weight and how tapestries look on an xray

For this person who is asking about https://booth.pm/en/items/6363254 on GNFOS . I would say they are good quality. I believe what the Japs mean by double suede is a better quality fabric than Suede.

These tap I bought has really nice fabric and print quality https://booth.pm/en/items/6473566 https://booth.pm/en/items/5972057
Meanwhile something like this had poor quality https://booth.pm/en/items/6413705 and is on polyester suede.
https://booth.pm/ja/items/6443158 This one's image quality is fine, but they folded it and the fabric is pretty rough.

So the gist here is that the image should look crisp(hard to know sometimes) and it should be printed on W Suede.
The video I posted has a good guide

 No.141863

It's not like you can't buy them or if when shipping them in they're on the customs manifest, but it seems like there's a bit more government intervention in the transportation of physical merch out of Japan.

buying from japan is really expensive when you take in VAT and shipping... For all my stuff I end up paying twice basically. I have the money, but it's still annoying as heck.

Like for decorating all the walls of my bedroom with tapestries it's probably like 600$ and I could still go further... then importing has probably been about 300$ on top of that... then you could add on accrylics, dakis and so on.

So if I wanted to do a big shopping spree of japanese stuff if I won the lottery it would be better in the end to just go to Japan and carry back 1400$ of stuff, pay the VAT as a good citizen and go on your way.
The other cost is that the government has opened my packages like 3 times now. They seem to have stopped and I think they didn't understand what tapestry rolls looked like, but if you violate local laws you could go in jail or confescates it..

No you don't. Maybe if you look obviously underaged or are like wearing a school uniform or something then they'd ask, but otherwise it just works by the honour system. Plus, they don't want to have to figure out how to ask you in English and to decipher your ID any more than you do, so being a gaijin basically gives you a free pass in situations like that.

The second one in the top row is the catalogue. Other than that, almost all of them are doujinshi, with the exception of the top left one (tankobon) and the far bottom left (illustration book). The pair on the right are doujinshi but without words IIRC.
A large portion of the stuff at Comitia was illustration books and other stuff of that sort, but I don't really have much interest in buying that kind of stuff unless it is from an artist I really like (and there were only two artists there that I am familiar with; neither selling anything I wanted), so that's why I didn't get many.
Also worth mentioning that Comitia is only for original works, not parodies, which is why none of the characters are recognizable.

The two on the far bottom left are both by circle Far From Ok. One, Tsukumo Oujo, is an illustration book, the other, Ame, is a doujinshi of sorts. The third black-and-white one on the bottom left, Atama Occult, is by a different circle (Maki Harigane), and I got it mostly because the printing seemed somewhat unusual. I like to put up stuff that I personally perceive as cool, let's say cool-looking mechs for example, and think of anything potentially sexually arousing as not worth it to display. I guess I see it like putting up pictures of a sandwich, or something. Both eating sandwiches and cumming is a good feeling, but you just do it and that's it then, there is no interest to search for sandwich content on the web or hang it up on the wall, for most people at least I'd think. That is actually very eye-opening. People see art in different things, and two people seeing art in the same thing will recognize each other and share some type of connection. I see art in cool robots and recognize a preferred artist feeling the same in exactly how he makes his art, for you it's that artist with a different type of art.

I certainly feel better looking at digital depictions on a screen, so I imagine the same thing is happening with having it on display. It also feels good to support the artist. Really this isn't much different from ye olden days where people would commission artists for paintings and such.

deep reading... i just like the female figure and it's interesting to build sets out of your wall... like that image that's being discussed right now it's a display of highschool styled exhibitionism. Other walls have different themes.

This sort of thing is impossible in a digital space and much less meaningless if you don't both struggle with the problem of defective reproductions and the mental-puzzle or struggle of how to present the art such that you don't get in trouble when someone sees it who isn't in the know.

Like you might not see it very well, but the bottom right image has this dark banding.
These details and the vibrancy of the colors isn't properly picked up on camera. You very much need to see it in person to appreciate it and criticize it.

 No.160468

And I'll emphasize one more time... the colors are really vibrant when put onto a suede canvas. There's no better medium to appreciate it than maybe a painting portrait style reproduction in a frame. Could have just been an honest mistake too. In a warehouse you have people that are called pickers that pull the actual orders and load them on to carts. Usually the carts have 20-50 slots and each slot is an order. Then these get brought up to a packing station where someone else packs the individual orders into boxes.

Picker might have tossed those in your slot by mistake or the divider came out and the packer wasn't sure which went with which order and guessed. I've also seen a lot of people being actively malicious because both of those jobs suck and management is always slave driving them. So they throw extras into random boxes to screw over the warehouse. A few bucks here and there on each order adds up to thousands over the course of a day sometimes.

There is also the possibility that your order came back to what's called resolutions. Which are there to catch fucked up packages before they go out for delivery. They also end up with all the loose items that somehow got outside of where they're supposed to be. There are huge piles of random items at resolutions that they're supposed to sort and return to the warehouse floor in an attempt to balance inventory. It's also a pretty shit and stressful job and many times you end up with random stuff you can't figure out where it came from or where it's supposed to be returned to. So if you can make it vanish then you can mark it down as a loss or put it off (and blame) the next or prior shift. A lot of that type of stuff goes on.

I've done all three jobs. Picking is by far the least stressful but the most wear and tear on your body. Packing sucks because you're standing in one place all day. Resolutions is the worse because you're basically doing all three jobs at the same time plus providing support for the other two. Then if a lot goes missing it gets blamed on you. I've spent hours walking around looking for thousands of dollars worth of merch some forklift driver misplaced. Or sorting through thousands of small items and running around trying to return them to the proper location in the warehouse before the pickers need them. Or having to dig through massive boxes of loose items to find one little item to complete and order that's got to go out before the end of the shift. Blah blah blah.

Anyway, you shouldn't feel guilty about it or report it. As long as you got the item you originally ordered along with them consider it good luck and keep quiet. If you do alert the company you'll just get whoever did you a solid in trouble.

Oh that's a really cool experience, I've never had something like that happen before.
The most surreal buyfag experience I've ever made was finding the Japan-exclusive artbook to one of my favorite shows on our equivalent of Craigslist. Neither the anime, nor the manga have ever gotten a release here and even the US is rarely talking about it anymore, but somehow that one guy from my country was selling the 100+ bucks artbook from 2003 that I've never seen outside of Japan... for under 10 bucks with shipping included.
