Well, stuff is going to be starting shortly. I'm starting to look at them and I'm a bit underwhelmed aside from sequels. The normal deluge of isekai, of course.

"Tough guy isn't so tough when dealing with a kid" genre has another entry. Seems very Spy X Family-ish.
https://anilist.co/anime/155907/Buddy-Daddies/

This might be nice. Seems cute. I like this kind of thing more than the teasing stuff
https://anilist.co/anime/148969/Kubosan-wa-Mob-wo-Yurusanai/

This one could be good, about a guy being turned into a dog? I don't like the guy's voice very much, though. Ehh...
https://anilist.co/anime/146346/Inu-ni-Nattara-Suki-na-Hito-ni-Hirowareta/

Tomboy romcom? Maybe. (probably not)
https://anilist.co/anime/151806/Tomochan-wa-Onnanoko/

Worth a shot.
https://anilist.co/anime/153629/Tensei-Oujo-to-Tensai-Reijou-no-Mahou-Kakumei/

Maybe? Trailer wasn't amazing. Main girl reminds me of the alien girl in Teppen.
https://anilist.co/anime/155089/Ars-no-Kyojuu/

Another serious one. I was thinking "reminds me of that Mars Red show" and it's the same studio.
https://anilist.co/anime/125869/Hikari-no-Ou/

I had no idea those video games were getting an anime. I don't think I'd want to watch this without playing those first.
https://anilist.co/anime/130696/The-Legend-of-Heroes-Sen-no-Kiseki--Northern-War/

Isekai, yeah, but this girl has the ability to jump between the worlds apparently and her goal is to save up money. I like it when people can jump between worlds and influence them, so this might be something I like.
https://anilist.co/anime/152765/Rougo-ni-Sonaete-Isekai-de-8manmai-no-Kinka-wo-Tamemasu/

Girls doing Judo. Ehhhh... I doubt I'd like it, but listing it because it's kind of novel. It'd be better if they were cute.
https://anilist.co/anime/136435/Mou-Ippon/

Well, I think at least a couple of the ones I listed should turn out well. Even if none of this stuff turns out well there's still some major sequels/continuations:

https://anilist.co/anime/136430/VINLAND-SAGA-SEASON-2/
Vinland, yeah.

https://anilist.co/anime/130588/Maou-Gakuin-no-Futekigousha-Shijou-Saikyou-no-Maou-no-Shiso-Tensei-shite-Shisontachi-no-Gakkou-e-Kayou-II/
Awesome chuuni show. The "did you think I'd die just because you killed me?" guy. I hope it can be as good as the first season. Pairing this with Kage will be amazing.

https://anilist.co/anime/142853/Tokyo-Revengers-Seiya-Kessenhen/
Revengers. Good show.

https://anilist.co/anime/140596/Ijiranaide-Nagatorosan-2nd-Attack/
I don't like Nagatoro as much as other people, but it can be enjoyable.

>I'm a bit underwhelmed aside from sequels
I'm actually relieved, these seasons have been jam-packed and it's nice to have a slower, relaxed season.

>I like this kind of thing more than the teasing stuff
Yeah, I'm looking forward to this
Aside from Takagi-chan, and they act like that because of the age of they are, most of the "teasing" series have kind of dropped that gimmick and became more romcom/SoL stuff after the first handful of chapters.

>Tomboy romcom? Maybe. (probably not)
This is one of the most anticipated anime of the year, but I remember fans of the manga being vaguely frustrated about something, but because of the popularity of the manga I will give it a shot regardless.

>Girls doing Judo. [...] It'd be better if they were cute.
I think hobby SoL depends on the interest, really.
And hey! They are cute in a 2000s way. This is another one I'm looking forward to the most.

>Vinland, yeah.
I don't know if it's gotten to that point in the anime, but didn't Vinland get editor'd?

>I don't like Nagatoro as much as other people, but it can be enjoyable.
Nagatoro is kind of in a weird spot in terms of reception. The fanbase of the original CGs didn't like how it was toned down and then the fanbase of the teasing/gentle femdom in the manga didn't care for the drama later on. I think the anime made it gain a new audience though.

I'll write more once I look through trailers and stuff. Also a weird thing to say but I really miss the widepire, wish she had a S2 already.

>I'll pass on anything Netflix.
I understand hating big corporations and all, but this is just a retarded stance to take. There's absolutely no reason to completely ignore great anime like Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Devilman Crybaby, or whatever else good they may produce, just because it was funded by Netflix. They don't have any creative control and for the most part they're just throwing money at people to make what they want to make for the sole purpose of having it be something to add to the netflix catalogue.

Ningen Fuhin has potential, but I'm leaning towards it not living up to it. Four people betrayed by circumstances in life and have come to resent the world sounds like a good setup, but I'm not convinced it will be good. So far I'm not impressed by the character interactions, and the humor is more of a "meh". I'll definitely have to see episode two at least, but I'm not feeling it, which is a shame because I like the setup.

Tensei Ouju to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei

Well, this show started off kind of interesting in the first couple minutes, but quickly pivoted to drama and gossip and the type of political intrigue of arranged marriages and other stuff that generally doesn't appeal to me as a male.

Man, the new Vash looks so bad. Why did they do this to him? He looked so cool. It seems like this redesign is supposed to help it connect to modern teenagers since he looks like one of them, but when you bring back an IP aren't you banking on the nostalgia of the original fans? He had crazy anime/JRPG hair that was longer than his head and it was so silly, but it worked. The other characters I've seen in the preview don't look that great, either, but Vash was iconic.

Great
>Onimai: I'm Now Your Sister!
Heh

Potentially great, likely good
>Revenger
Only took a few minutes to establish that it's well made. Starting us off with characters doing interesting things rather than a narrator. Rockin PsychoPass tier OP. Could be kind of simplistic besides from this though
> The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady
Great action, cute MC, main character who wasn't given the tools to win. The character interactions are kind of spergy, but the characters have realistic issues.
OK
>Farming Life in Another World
That farming anime you were looking for but never got. I never actually wanted a farming anime though
>Giant Beasts of Ars
Jazzy OP that gets you interested. The action is well done. Basic fantasy setting. Not getting my hopes up
>Sugar Apple Fairy Tale
Pretty gritty for something so cute. Something feels off about it all though. Romance of a slave and his owner.
>Tsurune - The Linking Shot
Good aesthetics and music. Sport archery story kind of slow and simplistic
>Tomo-chan Is a Girl!
Nice opening shots. A story about tomboy who is in love with a friend. Not particularly well paced for a romcom.

Didn't entertain in 5 mins
>Spy Classroom
Good setting. Typical edgy characters without any meta gags. Looks like a show without anything to it besides CGDCT with occasional action. Feels like it's following the trends of a few shows.
>Technoroid OVERMIND
The first 5 seconds had an animation issue. Seems like a boyband show.
>My Life as Inukai-san's Dog

Good OP, not much else

Buddy Daddies
Very similar to Spy X Family as I already said, but certainly quite a bit darker and not afraid to show bodies with bullet holes in them. Although dark, it's also silly such as blocking gunfire with a cooking pan.
I would not put it in the same quality level as Spy X Family, but it would be very difficult to live up to that. Possibly fujobait (I'm bad at detecting these things).
I'm definitely giving this a chance.

Also it earns points for being an anime Original.

I didn't feel much humor from it. Could've been nice if they'd minimized the tragic past stuff and emphasized their dame ningen addictions, but I'm pretty sure it's just going to be a "getting your life back together through the power of friendship" deal set in a fantasy world.

>>102130
It's a really weird setup that keeps doing the generic shoujo stuff where he gets all moody and kabedons her so she can squee and dokidoki, but she's supposed to be the master who will be abandoned and killed if she lets him have control. I'd find it interesting if she were actually wary of him, but instead they're going for the naive girl who melts his icy heart and it just doesn't seem to fit. It'd probably be a lot more believable if the slavery system were established as more than just "I can grab your wing to make you feel pain" because every time he grabs her arms I just wonder why he doesn't free himself then and there.

3DCG is improving, but not there yet. The choppiness is still too much for me, but the limitations of 3D facial animation is being reduced.

Isekai Nonbiri Nouka

An isekai about a guy being a farmer with a magical morphing work tool. I liked the first episode with him establishing himself, but judging by the opening minute (clearly showing some point in the future) and the OP it's not going to stay this way for the whole show. He's surely going to save some girls from dragons or something and establish a town. Hopefully that's the last episode, but I don't know.
Why can't a farming isekai just be about farming and crafting? People do spend thousands of hours in stuff like Minecraft so I think it would sell. Yeah, cute girls are nice, but sometimes a man just wants to shape the world around him

 No.102179

>Isn't it normal for isekais to only use the premise once?
I think there's three loose types of isekai, in terms of how the MCs' background ties into the story:
¥Adventure
Epic gamer gains the ability to game the fuck out of the world he's been reincarnated in, and uses this to become a legend while nerdgasming over kemonomimi, archetype characters, and such. It's just like my Japanese anime. Often kind of a regular fantasy story about a guy wanting to become the strongest warrior but with extra spice.
Ken Deshita would fall here, and that's why its focus on Fran really changed things up.
¥Quiet
Doesn't bank so much on the videogame aspect as it does on the MC having a second shot at living the nice fantasy life they wish they could've had back on Earth. SoL stuff.
¥Fundamental
The least common, where the character has very specific objectives they actively pursue that are 100% based on their past, and the story could not take a place at all or would be radically different without such a central element. Think of Bookworm and Overlord.

These obviously overlap and aren't clean-cut, the idea is that in many cases the first two wouldn't change much if you took out the reincarnation, but it's not entirely irrelevant as one puts emphasis on the power fantasy while the other focuses on the relief of being free from the real world. That's how I see it.
Falling into one of the first two doesn't make something bad either, Mushoku has a lot of the first type and I like it, not in spite of it. Nor does being part of the third automatically make something good.

 No.102180

Farmer turned out to be a very good example of the quiet type.

Sorry, that didn't come across clearly. What I meant was that isekai stories tend to not reference things from MC's previous world, at least in my view. There are exceptions, even outside the ones where getting back is the goal, but their old life is often just a passing reference about how they were a hikki or a salaryman or some other generic Japanese person, probably so the audience can fill in the gaps with their own life.

Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu. 2 (I watched most of season 1 but remember very little of it and don't feel like going back and rewatching)

Suzume no Tojimari has to be one of the best Shinkai films I have watched. If it wasn't for my personal attachment to 5cm per second (first one I watched and also still probably think its the best) and Garden of Words (love teacher student age gap and also the incomparable beauty of the visuals), I would say this was the best one. In this movie Shinkai actually does something different, and by different I mean that this movie has a strong coherent plot (with only one moment that ignores making sense to have a cool scene) and absolute no trace of a romance story of two people who like each other but for some reason cant be together. It even feels different in how it balances comedy with the more serious moments of the plot, I mean one of the main characters is a chair for most of the movie. I want to say it followed the typical Shinkai 'about the journey not the destination' but then towards the end it really brings it back and you get a holy shit moment when you realize something that there actually was a lot of foreshadowing for but you can't really know what it is foreshadowing until you reach the end of the movie. Really just amazing, this has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen.
Even in the visuals it takes a different direction than classic Shinkai, there is much less focus on big atmospheric shots and instead the atmosphere is given through the insane levels of detail each location has and the shot composition that does a good job of showing off this high level of detail while giving some cool angles. I would still say Garden of Words looks better, but this one has much more fluid animation which makes a big difference considering that there is some action in it. I could keep rambling but I will stop here, definitely going to go see it again when it comes out in my home country because its a great movie and also because I missed the backstory/important plot reveal about the cat as they were saying alot of words I didn't know.

Hikari no Ou

From the preview I expected something action-y, but it's focused more on drama. The first episode was laying the framework so it's hard to say how it will turn out, but I find the premise very interesting.
Here is the basic premise, which is explained in the first episode:
It's a post-apocalyptic setting where "humanity died and was remade" and can no longer make effective use of fire. If a human body gets near it, it will spontaneously combust, or so a woman explained. But, there is a new, rare special fire that people can use and it's related to "Fire Hunters" and the fiery monsters that roam the wilderness now.
It might qualify as steampunk. I'm putting it in the seasonal stream, but I'm not sure how interested other people will be in it. Hoping for good things.
Originals are looking good this season, as was already said.

I knew the kubo-san show and the nextdoor angel show would be very similar, but what I didn't expect was that kubo-san was incredibly boring and nextdoor angel is extremely comfy and gives off that warm feeling. its just better in every way, even in the more basic but overall better character designs and artstyle.
To be fully honest I was expecting the quality to be reversed, I greatly prefer gag comedy romcoms to comfy slow paced romcoms. I did not think a single one of the gags in kubo-san had any humor to them even though it was clearly trying to be funny.
if anyone in /qa/ is debating which of the two generic romcoms to watch I would say nextdoor angel

It's really amazing that this anime was one of the most popular at the onset of the season, and on episode 3 it's probably the worst trash I've seen out of the batch. Went from introducing the main cast as a bunch of rookie spies fresh out of the academy, and near failing no less, being put to the test on a mission even the best spies in the world would struggle on. To in Ep2 them superspeeding through whatever "training" they did and having ep3 being them easily beating the impossible mission with no casualties. There was potential for a story in this, but they just skipped through it all and any development for no reason, what a mess.

As for OPs, I have to say that Hikari no Ou (Fire Hunter) is my favorite from what I've seen. Episode three was pretty great after episode two was kind of disappointing. Good, stylish animation and an interesting backstory. The animators do seem to be cutting some corners with manga-like panels and sometimes people talking over a black screen of Japanese symbols when they talk about a character or concept. There's also 3D, but it's more tolerable than most because it's not so choppy and they actually used textures.
But, I can forgive this stuff because it's so nice to watch them move during the rest of the show.

Now it's about halfway into the season and nothing much has really happened besides some ventures into other lands that feel almost touristy and a small bit of plot buildup in the background. Which could be good if the anime engaged you to the characters better, but as of right now I'm not really feeling any connection to them.

Also funny that they overlaid an electrical ost with flutes playing even though there's no flutes in it. Didn't really notice on the first episode, but as things have gone on it seems like the budget is getting thinner and thinner.

I think that Revenger may end up being the sleeper hit of the season with how little talked about it seems to be. Episode 5 was on another level from the ones before it. Accomplished by introducing doubt into the morality of the organization without needing to force it. Nio played the perfect role of an immature and non-chalant chaotic force that bends the rules of what does and does not constitute allowed. It makes me eager to see how his selfish interests may end up colliding with the church.

My favorite episode of the entire season so far. Nio having the agency and willingness to go and prostitute himself again, with the man that was his previous owner, for the sake of the children is nothing short of admirable, it's even better that you don't have the rest of the cast going sugggeeee Nio-sama what a hero you are.
Better yet was the tent scene, it all flowed really well, their twisted love didn't need a minutes-long monologue to get the feeling across, just a handful of sentences and a few motions. You can see their mutual understanding.

Nio isn't doing it for the sake of the children but for his own sake. The children are a convenient excuse for him to present to Yuen and the others. Nio is broken, a psychopath. He loves killing probably to the point that killing the Doan was done more out of love than out of revenge. He wanted to kill Doan and he knew that there had to be a moral pretext for killing Doan that the others and the Church would agree with.

Well, for me the jump from silly sketch comedy in a goofy fantasy world to serious and gritty dark fantasy was a bit hard to take, and it wasn't really transitioned into that well. Now with the 3 episodes of dark out of the way it's somewhat back to sketch comedy but not because it's somewhat still serious and swapping between comedy sketch and serious storybuilding with hardcuts and no real sense of trying to mix the two. If it tried to do one of them well I think it could pull it off but constantly switching between the two is a bit weird.

Unlike Utawarerumono or other more serious titles where the SoL is used as setup for a more serious storyline, this kinda feels more like if Cromartie suddenly shifted into a 100% serious seinen. It's a 180 tonal shift compared to subtle ramp up.

How to drop any goodwill I have towards your series and make me consider dropping in 1 episode before the end...

(video is from episode 9, not really a spoiler)

Guess what just had a second season announced?
Hikari no Ou (Fire Hunter) ended at 10 episodes.
It has a lot of slow moments to it, but it's building up. I like the atmosphere its unique style with visually distinct characters. The animation quality is poor at times, but you can tell that they're trying. It saddens me quite a bit to see passionate people limited by time and money.
Let's hope they have more time with S2.

mehh, well I guess her biological father is dead so her mom's probably a better person now. Still it's a stupid trope i've seen in a lot of anime which paints a bad picture of fosters(and imigration)... well I guess that's an episode that makes me think more about anime than anything else airing this year

Think Urusei Yatsura is the only anime this season that had me actually bursting out laughing like a retard. They need to make more remakes if all of them are going to be this high quality.

It's a shoujo and this is the cover, take a guess.

I like how in shoujo the guy doing the NTR looks like the guy who would be NTR'd in media aimed at men
