What games have the best fishing? Was playing Nier and was it got me thinking about how many different variations of this minigame there are for how common it is in games, and in Nier itself it's really well done, at least the reeling in part, requires you to feel out vibrations on the controller and keep it on the sweet spot as the fish pulls against you and switches up its position. Also some of these are harder than the bosses I've fought with how long you need to keep at them

People use Breath of Fire as the ultimate example. I barely played it, though, and can't speak of personal experience. Some Zelda games have really nice fishing, and Twilight Princess's attempt with the wiimote was pretty interesting. This stuff is otherwise usually pretty similar as a minor distraction and not something very deep since it was a pretty popular addition. Even Xenogears had a little fishing game

I was thinking about this more, here's an example of BoF 4 fishing. It's really good. Skip around the video a bit and you'll see elaborate stuff.
Remember this is an RPG and not a fishing game
