 No.12942

For months I've been procrastinating about writing a "welcome to kissu" guide explaining stuff, but maybe it's better if it's a community thing to brainstorm a more thorough introduction to kissu. My idea for this is a basic thread where people can share information about kissu that newer users may be curious about, and then I can turn it into a page here somewhere or maybe an easily shareable image? People can ask questions, too, as that would probably be a good thing to see what people actually want to know. The goal is to make it a bit easier for newer people to acclimate to kissu and not feel alienated by references or allusions to things.

A thread on /b/ might be forgotten easily. I guess if that happens I can try on /qa/ instead.
So, uhh... what to do, what to do...

An image could work, like Keine-sensei's posting guidelines if you've ever seen that image. As an idiot who's not so new and learned by feel, the thing I would like to know coming in is:
¥What board is for what?
I see this a little with some of the banners giving a high level overview of what /qa/ and /jp/ are for (serious vs funposting), but the others are self explanatory, though a mention to what entails for /maho/, /secret/, and the seasonal boards are for could help since they're not quite analogous to ones newfriends may be familiar with.
¥Formatting
Everyone knows what the quote function is, but the yen symbol is new (to me anyway) and something I am only 95% sure I'm using correctly. The colored text and stuff is cool too.

The rest is more or less about /kissu/ culture.
¥Sage
Since sageru is visible it would be a good idea to do a rundown on what is expected of that and what would be a situation to use it, funny image related. I see "On-topic sager" a lot so clarification on it would be helpful.
¥Lingo
I still have no idea what shab is or means ;_;
A /kissu/ dictionary kudasai.
¥Perceptions on avatar and namefagging
It's frowned upon elsewhere, but this is a different place. So how different are the perceptions on "taboos" here?
¥Moderation and da rules
a QRD on explaining your guy's philosophy on moderating, what the /trans/ board is in relation to that, and where lines are drawn on what is acceptable and not acceptable. Following up to this would be what newfriends should be leaving at the door in terms of culture or habits. And:
¥Thread making
I spilled some spaghetti about this earlier, but tips like that saying "If you want a thread on X topic then just post it dummy!" was a nice kick in the butt. But I still worry about unspoken rules I haven't picked up yet, so whatever esoteric knowledge needs to be know so the hesitation of posting is done away with would be good I think.

Some of those overlap but that's all I can think of right now, thank you for listening to my TED talk.

Yeah, although it's drifted a bit from its original meaning in recent months (which is pretty interesting)

>"On-topic sager"
it used to be the case that about 30% of posts on kissu were sage (>>5004) but things happened and that's no longer the case, and polite sage has (at least in comparison) mostly died off, this meme is part of that (and a bit of trolling, mind you)
>¥Perceptions on avatar and namefagging
the most visible person is andy and he's way too autistic to stop, by now it's been like eight years of people calling him a fag with no end in sight
the mods can be fairly visible as well particularly when it comes to meta, outside of that it's not something that is done actively or generally brought up even if some users may have noticeable posting patterns
>/trans/
that's where deleted posts go, at least for most boards, no comment on the rest
>whatever esoteric knowledge needs to be know
curse of knowledge dakara i can't be sure unless you ask, also there's trends that come and go like the big ass mafia that was fun
but you picked up on yenning so you're clearly doing well, though as a note putting kissu between slashes looks rather weird
>>12945
did you know that "kid" originally meant young goat and "guy" meaning dude was a reference to guy fawkes (whose name predates the noun)

Yenposting is literally just 4chan greentexting but with a different symbol to appease obnoxious "who are you quoting" faggots.

Many a meta thread has been filled arguing about when sage is appropriate. Better to just say it does nothing than to continue to waste everyone's time trying to enforce one viewpoint.

I'd say the important thing to note for sage is that's it's not used to denote negativity like some other communities seem to believe. It's typically used for posts that the poster believes are either not significant or related to the conversation topic enough to warrant bumping the thread to the top of the board, but you have both people who almost always sage and those that almost never sage, so there's no real hard and fast guideline for what's "correct"

I guess a short overview of the boards is in order, although the rules page (https://kissu.moe/rules#global) covers most of it.

/qa/ - Longer, higher quality threads of a variety of topics. Post quality is expected to be higher, although imageboard happenings thread receives an exception as it's meant to be an embassy of sorts.

/jp/ - shorter, dumb threads generally. Basically a "I want to make a random thread and then forget about it" kind of board, although threads can turn long and serious based on replies. Threads that become this way can be requested to be moved to /qa/. Threads should be 2Dish in nature!

Season boards (/spg/, /sum/, /aut/, /win/) host threads closer to real life subjects, like weather or events and other similar stuff. It's like a counterpart to /jp/ that has stuff that can't be posted there. If you want to make a thread about a bird you saw outside you can put it on a seasonal board. If you saw it in a video game then it's probably more of a /jp/ thread. There was a cosplay thread on one of these at one point, so stuff like that could go here. The general idea is someone can think "I don't want to think about the real world on kissu" and choose to hide the seasonal boards. Politics and outrage stuff still banned, of course.

/maho/ - Tech stuff. A new board!

/poll/ - Polling. Kind of self-explanatory. Feel free to make stupid, nonsensical polls if you want.

/b/ - Meta stuff, although it often spontaneously crops up elsewhere.

/f/ - Although obviously home to flash files, it does support other formats like txt and uhhh... something. Very underutilized, but it's there.

/ec/ hidden from /all/ by default Image dumping board for ecchi and/or cute images. It features something similar to futaba's "YEAH!" voting thingie so you can 'like' an image. Also underutilized, but it's pretty neat.

/trans/
- Deleted stuff is sent here unless it's illegal content

/test/ - Self explanatory

There's also a secret board, but you'll never guess its secret name and secret url.

Oh yeah and also /cry/ and /xmas/ are two other boards that come back for a month every year. /xmas/ is self-explanatory, but /cry/ comes back for the month of Watanagashi (June) for When They Cry, uh, stuff. /cry/ was a regular board made after the announcement of the then new Higurashi anime back in 2020 since it was a pretty big deal to people here. People aren't required to use spoiler tags for Higurashi stuff there. It was just sitting there getting a couple posts every few months, so the decision was made to freeze and unlist it. Now it comes back every year for a limited time and and receives a little bit of activity.
They're very slow boards even when adjusted for their limited lifespans, but I like them!

Koruri - the belly girl. She's an OC of this artist (https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/2495644) alongside two other cat girls and while the other two are quite "normal" Koruri is short with a stubby tail and her diet of sweets has given her a cute belly. New art of Koruri has unfortunately greatly slowed down since the artist became lost to VR Chat. Likely the origin of the "/qa/ belly" term which just means, well, a belly. Not to be confused with the grotesque sizes you see fetishists take it to.

Surprise boxes

This refers to text contained within a spoiler tag that's not actually a spoiler. Generally speaking kissu uses spoiler tags for actual spoilers, so this pokes fun at people not doing that.
The issue with spoilers containing non spoilers is that people have no way of knowing what's behind the black box of mystery and they will invariably get spoiled over something that was properly spoiler'd. It may be difficult for people to break this habit, but it's better this way. Kissu has enough options to make text stand out, anyway.
