Game's probably going to annoy the preexisting 'Hollow Knight's map is obnoxiously large' team quite a lot judging from its piecemeal grafted together scope creep development story.
Fine with me though.

>Hollow Knight's map is obnoxiously large
It’s not large enough. To peacefully rest I need this to be at LEAST twice if not thrice as large. Hollow Knight’s map was so amazing it just left me yearning for more and I haven’t been able to satiate that yearning for years.

It's tomorrow... I'm really happy now that it's just on the Horizon, gonna be playing it all day tomorrow, and then the next day, and the next day after that. I really hope that the rumors are true that it's at least double the size of Hollow Knight. I want to get completely lost in the world.

Just beat the bell beast and was pleasantly surprised to see that he wasn't just a Moss Crawler reskin and now that I'm starting to get used to how Hornet controls differently from the Knight I'm really liking the flow of her moveset. Found this one area that seems like some sort of challenge area locked behind a simple key that kicked my ass at first but I'll go back again and beat it I think. A lot of enemies in this game are casually hitting for double which I didn't expect. Wonder if that means there'll be even heavier hitters later on.

I'm having a bit of a tough time as well, but for me it's more refreshing to actually be challenged a little after I've become so good at Hollow Knight after the Pantheons and Radiant HoG that I'm actually not facerolling through the game. That and I think I'm probably really underleveled for where I am. Still only have 5 mask shards and I'm already in the Halfway Home and after going through a more secret area I'm fighting what seems to be a more extra boss that's kicking my ass.

 No.10510

Although, I do have a feeling that there's some sort of nailsmith that I'm missing who'd make my weapon do some more damage to kill these enemies easier. I have a hard time believing that we're just supposed to stick with the base poker forever.

I have to say, I've been pretty thorough in my exploration so far, and I haven't really found all that much in the way of normal upgrades like Masks or Silk, just a bit of toolbox ones. I did it, I killed the boss that was a harder version of the earlier one and got nothing... Well, I did get some Rosaries but they only offset the loss of 600 that I had when I messed up my route on the way back and stumbled into and arena. Every other boss has felt somewhat rewarding or at least blocked something, but this one didn't really have anything. At least I guess it filled out the completed Hunter Journal entry I'd been looking for.

I mean it makes sense. This definitely feels like a game made for fans of the first who have conquered most of the challenges presented. The difficulty is there, but I dont think it's unfair. Hornet's moveset and tools are vastly different from the Knight's, with a lot more ways to change them. Takes practice and getting used to.
>>10552
The first game was a huge hit. Good story and worldbuilding, pleasing artstyle, fantastic music, and just overflowing with personality from the characters and world design. Helped that the gameplay was very tight, easy to understand, and could challenge you greatly. So then this game was announced and hyped to the moon, and it stuck the landing.

I'm glad they made the game so hard. I've gotten to the point where I can casually play Steel Soul without much of any worry in the original HK. Now I'm getting my ass kicked here and there in this game and it feels exhilarating to not just breeze through it. The High Halls fight was absolutely insane and probably clears everything but the TOTF, and even then now I'd probably have to go back and check if that really still is harder. Enemy attacks patterns here are just so much more sophisticated and less abusable. Gonna be such a good time to play this on Steel Soul.

First ending completed and I feel a rush of exhilaration. Holy shit those two final bosses were great. Lace 2 was a true endgame challenge that I'll dread fighting if there's any boss rush and Grandma Silk was probably even faster than Absrad in terms of attack speed (though absrad still has the harder patterns IMO) If there is a boss rush it'll kick my shit in so hard... While HK's bosses were mostly pretty nice and easy once you got used to them, these ones keep you on the edge of your seat the whole fight. I think the majority of them are fairly comparable to NKG or PV if I were to make any comparison, they're no joke and the 3 phases and total health on each is pretty insane.

Saw a tumor stream linked somewhere and got irrationally (or maybe rationally?) enraged about their viewers. These people are in the chat acting all cheeky about super endgame far far beyond the ending knowledge and I closed it before I got any more spoiled than just a hint at something. I saw that they were all super knowledgeable about act 3 somehow despite less than 3% of people having actually gotten to that point in the game, and only 0.1% of people having beaten the game 100% at this point. I know for a fact that all these neandrethals sitting all day in a tumor's chatroom instead of playing the game haven't actually done anything in the game and probably couldn't even beat the normal ending. That means they just go and look up the ending and guides immediately and then from there act all fucking cheeky about their supposed 'knowledge' when it came with no effort on their end. I despise them. I loathe them. More than the tumors, who actually at least are playing the game, I think them vermin.

Played most of the game pretty basic style, just hitting with the nail and mostly with the reaper crest so I feel like the whole crest system was a bit wasted on me unfortunately. If you were to optimize it (which you'd have to if you were to do hardcore without too much pause-scamming) you'll definitely want to use different ones on different bosses though and you'd have to master most if not all of them. The part that sucks about them is that some have downward-forward attack and it fucks with platforming, might've used other crests more if not for that.

>>10517
Used that one most of the game before switching to wanderer, that one is definitely stronger if all you want to do is hit with your nail. You could say it's harder but I'm not so sure, you get more damage in so you finish fights faster. If you get good at clashing (previous game didn't give you invuln frames on clash did it?) you could even go full unga-bunga style with that crest, preferably with flea drink.

Stuff like this was one of my favorites. It's a really nice change of pace.

I bought the game a fews days ago for PC. Is anybody else playing on Mouse and Keyboard? It says not to and I was doing okay ignroing it but know that I have unlocked dash/sprint I am finding it difficult to actually use it on keyboard.

I use controller. Some things just aren't good on keyboard, and this game is one of them, though I know some speerunners will swear otherwise because of some frame perfect input you can't do on the controller or whatever.

I figured, I'll have to use a controller.

Z is jump, X is attack, left right arrow keys are left and right. The issue is that dash is C.

I don't think this game has one. I haven't done path of pain but I did do white palace and from what I hear path is harder. In this game I haven't ran into anything harder or on par with white palace, there is somewhat hard stuff but it's all in short bits. It's definitely not nearly as hard as they could've made it.

man, i really should give these games another try. I picked up the first one years ago but ended up getting stuck and lost trying to figure out how to progress. didn't even know how to look up a guide because of the nature of metroidvania games.
I kinda wish these games were linear or did some sacrilegious handholding in case you get stuck, I ended up checking every corner of most of the map twice and after watching someone else play (years later) I think I missed a switch in the mantis village that lets you go downwards. If I ever manage to get myself to play it again it's gonna be with a guide this time around

It's really not that hard in the original, or this. Well, this it's a bit hard if you're going for the true end, same with the original, but getting the first ending? That's easy.

Environmental Station Alpha. I'll just come out and say that the hint for the true endings is to first start with paying attention to the animals. The game's by the Baba is You creator and in a perfect puzzle game fashion there's nothing that's really unimportant without telling you explicitly it isn't.

It just didn't live up to my expectations, particularly I think the core metroidvania map experience is worse this time around while I've always defended Hollow Knight's. I think things like gating progress by having things not spawned on the map until the quest is triggered are actually antithetical to the genre and it made for superfluous backtracking and punished me for thinking "but I've already been there".
They seem to have put most of their effort into making sure enemies are appropriately scaled to Hornet's increased movement options over everything else but it feels like the platforming isn't similarly scaled up.

 No.10975

Absolutely crazy all the small hidden details that this game has.

 No.10978

>>10968
I'm going to save my critiques of the map experience for when I've actually started doing the 100% speedrun, but I can see and do think that the seemingly lack of anything in an area until a quest is triggered can be a bit annoying. Not so much with ones that involve NPC movement, but the ones in which you're tracking a hunt. Think ideally you'd gate those encounters naturally so that they can be encountered early on and before the quest, but maybe they're just too hard or need an upgrade to get to. Maybe it'll be something they address in DLC but I don't really think it's possible unless they revise the rosary system a bit so that it's more selling dropped enemy items that nets you beads instead of just being dropped by enemies so you can be collecting potential quest items before you've even started.

I think with stuff like >>10975, we're going to see a bit more of the world start to open up as people really dig into it. Maybe in a year or a few months I'll come back to it and like I did with HK come to absolutely love it as I route out different paths towards the ending.

On fleatopia one of the fleas is sleeping on the bench. If you press the attack button the flea wakes up and gets out of the bench, so freaking cute.
