¥Studio Bind
No wonder it's got 10/10 animation. My god they just put their best effort into everything they do and they've got the talent to make it work every single time. It doesn't just look nice, every single frame is expressive, active, and full of energy. And of course, just looking at it you could tell it's the same former Shaft key animator who brought us Onimai. Really, I have high hopes for the future of this studio, hopefully it's the next KyoAni and everything they make turns out great instead of scaling up and taking on too many projects to where they dilute their talent.

I don't think as of now besides there'd be any better studio I could think of, besides KyoAni, that could make an anime about pretty crystals in nature and have it be good. You need a team that can elevate nature at or above what you'd experience doing it yourself and only with a high level of detail, good sound, and direction that knows what to focus on can you really emphasize nature in a way that stands out. This has all of that.

And normally I'd say I'm a loli guy, but I have to admit here that Nagi's very much prime wife material. Good lord her proportions are amazing, her personality's so soothing, and look at the STRENGTH in that swing. Her calm wisdom contrasted by Ruri's eager curiosity works well in a similar manner to Rin/Nadeshiko.

If you want it so bad well you can get it, you have to be able to read and write Japanese so you can write your application into a Japanese website (which only allows Japanese IP addresses), then you receive the date and address of a pop-up store at a restaurant on the 6th floor of a building in Akihabara that remains open for only 6 hours, and after eating 2 kg of natto noodles you can spend 1,000,000 yen on some merchandise of the girls with black bar censoring

Every frame of Nagi is perfection, truly.
Well, maybe some of the faraway views with the QUALITY are a bit silly.

I really like the color choice they use for this show makes everything feel so "natural". Not only does it add to the characters' charm but it makes the background and lighting realy pretty.

 No.10637

no ones really pointed out how much CG effects and backgrounds are being used in this. But I don't think anything other than the character here >>10601 is hand drawn

That's true, there's a lot of it.
But... my eyes aren't looking at it. I can only really notice in screenshots because it's only there for a few seconds before it changes angle to a character doing something else, often in a very animated manner.
In this screenshot, it's obvious the bookshelves are 3D and stuff... but I only notice now.
Hand-drawn backgrounds are certainly beautiful, no doubt, but maybe they made the sacrifice so they could give the characters more dynamic animation from different angles and stuff.
If only everything could be as beautiful as Akebi was...

In episode 10 Nagi only appeared for about 30 seconds and it was generally a weak episode overall. These two things probably aren't directed connected, but it doesn't help. Glasses girl is really quite boring.

Yeah I find the glasses girl's focus episode the weakest among the cast. Ep 11 also had nagi with less screentime with imari tagging along yet it was still a nice episode with ruri focus.

I love this gay cute rocktard, serves as a good foil to Ruri's somewhat more ever-growing desire with her honest and deep appreciation of even the smallest things.

I think this is probably the most heartwarming anime of the season. It's a simple lesson, but one that I think goes a long way to advocate for a different perspective on research than most tend to pick up. You don't have to be some sort of genius to do it, those with a passion for the field, even with simple reasons like Ruri herself, can accomplish far more with their actual care for and love of the subject than a random "smart" person who's impassive and just getting into research for a buck. Something that I feel a lot of people generally don't understand and therefore underrate their capacity for.

Watching her live in the moment through this process as she naturally moves towards becoming like Nagi in the future fills me with joy each episode. Especially the direct contrast in episode 12 to how Ruri first started her journey though hearing about her Grandpa's old crystal collection. Reminding the viewer of just how simple a desire it was that lead towards her going down this path. I want to root for her and Seto's success, especially Seto because of how discouraged she was by people who otherwise should have been supporting her. The anime not forcing interpersonal drama upon the viewer to introduce unnecessary conflict for 'spice' as many lesser SoL tend to do enhances this fluttery feeling by allowing the viewer to immerse themselves in this group collaboration effort the four take part in.

Helps that the anime is stunningly beautiful with a great soundtrack as well. Studio Bind definitely has to be one of my top 3 favorites at the moment, everything they touch turns to gold.

I guess I should make a summary post of this show since it ended.

It was pretty good overall. My main complaint is Nagi not getting nearly enough screen time. I feel like the red-haired girl and glasses didn't really add much for what they took away (Nagi). Seems to be pretty common that you have strong characters and then you add new ones so it's easier to write things.
Many of what would be the most appealing fan service shots were for Ruri instead of Nagi. It's a 'blood from a stone' situation if you ask me as they gave Ruri unusual detail in her legs that she wouldn't have as a stick. Nagi's, though, she hikes around nature for fun so she would have great legs.
Anyway...
I really liked learning about the geological stuff, the emphasis on timescales were especially neat since it's not something you tend to think about much. It's all limited to their small area in Japan so it would be neat if they explored the world in the future to look at all the exotic caves and other geography. Maybe that's in the source material.
